@MicrosoftSQL has powered the systems businesses depend on for decades. Today in Barcelona, at
#SQLCon and
#FabCon Europe, I shared how we are evolving that foundation for the AI era. Across industries, organizations want to bring AI closer to operational data without compromising performance, governance, security, or control. That requirement is shaping our strategy across Microsoft Fabric and SQL.
We are moving from simply monitoring databases to operating them more intelligently. 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗯, now in public preview, brings inventory, health, performance, security, risk, and optimization signals into one view, while new 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 for SQL and PostgreSQL help teams understand issues, prioritize actions, and move toward resolution within established guardrails. We are also giving customers more control over where critical workloads run: 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 is now generally available for both connected and disconnected operations.
We are expanding the foundation for applications as well. Azure SQL Database Hyperscale now supports scaling up to 192-vCores and generally available DiskANN vector indexes, giving transactional and AI-powered applications more room to grow without a change in database architecture. 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝘀 and 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗳𝗶𝗻 are shortening the path from idea to production, with PostgreSQL support in Rayfin Local, Fabric data connectors, backend functions, and code-defined access policies helping developers build faster while keeping enterprise data governed.
These are different parts of one strategy: helping organizations move from data to insight to action while preserving the qualities mission-critical systems require. Thank you to our engineering and product teams, our customers and partners, and the SQL and Fabric communities who joined us in Barcelona. I’ve shared more detail on these announcements and the thinking behind them in two blogs. Links in the comments.
Thank you to Sherif Yousri for joining us to talk about how SAP relies on Microsoft SQL for peak shopping day processing $17.8B USD sales.
