In the nine years since Substack launched, we've added new features that supercharge your ability find new readers and listeners, build community, and share your ideas in new formats like podcasts and livestreaming. But we've never changed the deal we offer creators: You own the relationship with your subscribers. You only pay once you're making money. And you keep 90% of what you earn, minus credit card processing fees. We're the only platform that only succeeds if our users succeed. You're doing the work; Substack offers you the tools to turn it into a business.

📢 Stats and analytics on Substack just got a major upgrade • Audio engagement curves are now live for audio posts on the overview and engagement tabs of post stats, so you can see how long listeners stayed tuned in. • Substack's built-in video clipping tool lets you turn long-form videos or live streams into short promotional clips. Now, see what's resonating with video engagement curves that give you stats on all your clips. • Your publication dash now shares complete statistics for each livestream you do on Substack, including how much new revenue it drove, so you can double down on what's working. Together, these stats upgrades give video and audio creators on Substack deeper insights, so you can attract new fans, grow your audience, and earn more money from everything you publish.

RT @rdominguezibar: Substack's first version wasn't even a product Chris Best, Substack's cofounder and CEO, typed the first writers into the database by hand. Their first writer, China expert Bill Bishop, made six figures on day one From our interview with @chrisbest on @substack, together with @guilleflorvs

@guilleflorvs and I asked @chrisbest how @substack got started. His answer: one writer, and a lot of manual work. In the early days, every new publication was created by hand. In Chris's words: "I had to go type it into the database to make the second one and the third one. It was very manual." Their first writer was China expert Bill Bishop (@niubi), and that single writer proved the idea. While they were in @ycombinator, they opened it up so anybody could get started. By the time we spoke, the platform had crossed five million paid subscriptions. ▫️ Paying customers can come before a polished product ▫️ Doing things by hand is a fast way to learn what people want Founders, what are you still doing by hand?
