The morning Swedish police raided The Pirate Bay I was in a strategy meeting at Universal Music in Norway. Everyone celebrated because the pirate ship was sinking. "The adults had won" (lol) Three days later the site was back online. Different servers and different jurisdiction. I looked around the office at my colleagues still planning next quarter's CD releases and realized something. I was working for people who thought they'd won a war that hadn't even started yet.

Storytelling is hard to hire for in the Bitcoin space because the default personality is socially awkward. Same way that the inverse is true that lots of charismatic people aren’t technical. More of a spectrum thing.

In 2021 bitcoin was boiling the oceans. Throughout January-October that year, 163 news outlets ran 285 bitcoin headlines mentioning the climate, carbon or the environment. This year: 10. On top of that, the Bitocin network runs almost 7 times the computing power it had then. Daily reminder that the news is a searchlight. It lights one thing up for a while, then swings to the next.

Took a look at this and HSBC's new stablecoin can't move between HSBC's own two apps. Its FAQ says RedCoin in PayMe can't go to HK App. You must be an HSBC customer. It runs on HSBC's private chain. 3.3M users, HK$80.8M issued in two days which is about $3 per user. So: Holders must be HSBC customers, it runs on HSBC's private chain, and RedCoin can't move between HSBC's own PayMe and HK App wallets. It doesn't even work across the bank's own apps.

JUST IN: @HSBC is rolling out its Hong Kong dollar stablecoin, HSBC RedCoin, to its 3.3M+ PayMe app users starting Friday, @SCMPNews reported This comes about 6 months after HSBC announced its stablecoin issuer license from the HKMA in April (image below.) “HSBC plans to fully integrate the stablecoin into its Hong Kong mobile banking app by year-end. It will allow customers to instantly subscribe to tokenised asset products, including money-market funds,” SCMP stated.

RT @basedlayer: Franklin Templeton just found a way to get bitcoin to people who'd never in their wildest dream would buy it. Two ETFs registered on Nasdaq this week offering 95% big US stonks + 5% bitcoin. Every dividend the stocks pay buys more BTC. Boomers were always going to own bitcoin through an ETF without touching it. Now they don't even have to actively press buy because reinvesting dividends is a habit they've trusted their whole lives. That's how you sell anything new: Offer it with something people already like and let it ride. Honestly genius.

Bitcoin is the most measured money EVER. It gets a new price every second (including saturdays) But what a dollar buys gets measured once a month. So a bad Saturday for BTC makes headlines while the USD buying a little less every month gets ignored.

The problem of our time is not merely information overload. It is that the time required to construct a coherent understanding of reality is becoming longer than the time during which that understanding remains valid.

The Fed didn't announce its rate decisions until 1994. Before that you had to work it out from what they did in the markets. In 2011 they started doing press conferences, streamed live. Bitcoin was two years old. Now they get clipped and debated over on X before they're even announcing anything. I think this type of authority only works best at a distance. The minute people start arguing with it, ending up in replies, the authoritative position starts wearing down.
