And who he did NOT. “An environment where confessing, even if false, seems like the only choice for immediate relief from suffering” Rick, in diagnosed psychosis after 5 months in a blanketless, roach infested concrete box 24 hrs a day, told/wrote to: - prison inmates - prison staff - prison psychologist - prison warden - his wife/mom while on a knowingly recorded line with “somebody [from the prison] here with me right now” some variation of, “I did it. I’m ready to confess. I killed Libby & Abby.” He did not, ONCE, make a phone call or write a letter confessing to: - His Attorneys - LE/Investigators - The Prosecutor - The Judge He was suffering in a way that the human mind is not capable of withstanding. An accepted fact & a deviation of documented protocols by IDOC themselves. He “confessed” to the people who his broken mind believed had control over his immediate critical situation. He believed his suffering & mental break was because he would not confess. #jerryholeman nearly said as much in his deposition. When arrested, Holeman promised Rick that he was “guilty of something & I’m gonna prove it!” A few days later, without a mandatory hearing held & without counsel & with a motion written by the same judge who signed off on it (then immediately recused himself), a constitutionally innocent man was shipped off to solitary confinement cell in the #IDOC. A false confession given in the belief that the immediate suffering will end is known as a compliant false confession. The primary motivation is to terminate the dangerous situation at that moment. The suspect perceives the immediate suffering (intense pressure, ✨isolation, sleep deprivation, verbal abuse✨) as a greater threat than the future consequences of a confession. Rick endured 5 months of isolation & fear, coupled with sleep deprivation for 48+ hrs at a time, starvation due to stress & a belief his food was being poisoned, tasing, wearing nothing but a caveman smock on a sheetless blanketless plastic cot on the floor during Indiana winter in the Westville Max Security Control Unit (a prison within a prison) literally coined “cold storage.” This wasn’t a change of plea. This wasn’t a desire for salvation or actions of a remorseful man. This was ultimate human desperation. #freerichardallen #freericky #thestateisthepython
