I was planning on holding off on this announcement until the project was farther along, but I'm excited to announce that I've been working on a new programming language called Phil, and the team at @Higherdotfun_ is supporting its development.
Simpson’s Paradox is a fascinating statistical phenomenon where the relationship between two variables can completely change when a third variable is considered. This often leads to contradictory conclusions if not carefully analyzed.
For example, in a data set, you might see a negative trend between variables X and Y. However, when you split the data into subgroups based on a third variable, Z, the trend might reverse or disappear.
Key takeaways:
✔️ Always consider potential lurking variables that could influence your results.
✔️ Be cautious with aggregated data; sometimes the real insights lie in the subgroups.
✔️ Use visualizations to better understand the relationships within your data.
The Wikipedia article on Simpson's Paradox offers this great visualization ( emphasizing the importance of thorough analysis to avoid such pitfalls. This paradox underscores the necessity for data analysts to be meticulous in their work to prevent erroneous interpretations.

Hi @TeamYouTube My channel was in the YouTube Partner Program. I’m an engineer and I made videos about tech and programming. Then, suddenly, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and I had to stop. Now I want to come back, but I’ve lost monetization. I know this isn’t the usual case, but I stopped for a very exceptional reason. Can you review my case so I can rejoin the program? Thank you.
Enough about the GOP disaster. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

The Crow Woman Who Became War Chief and Sat Third in Council
A Gros Ventre girl taken in a raid at about age ten became one of the most effective war leaders the Crow had. Bíawacheeitchish (bee-ah-wah-CHEE-tish), known in English as Woman Chief, earned her place by riding into a Blackfoot attack and killing three men herself.
She was born around 1806 among the Gros Ventre, or A’aninin (ah-AH-nin-in), the White Clay People. Captured by the Crow, or Apsáalooke (ap-SAH-loo-kee), she was adopted by a warrior who had lost sons in fighting. From the start she preferred hunting and the work of the warpath. Her adoptive father encouraged both. After his death she managed his lodge and the people in it.
In the 1830s, when Blackfoot warriors hit a trading post where Crow families had taken shelter, she rode out into the fight. She killed one attacker with a gun and two more with arrows, then helped drive the rest away. The Crow honored her with the name Bíawacheeitchish, Woman Chief, and seated her in the Council of Chiefs. She later ranked third among the leaders of roughly 160 lodges.
She raised her own war parties, struck Blackfoot camps for horses and coups, and counted first strikes that, by Crow custom, gave her a voice in council. She took four wives, which expanded the labor and wealth of her lodge in the usual pattern for a successful chief, and continued to wear women’s clothing. Contemporary traders who knew her, including Edwin Denig, documented these details from direct observation and Crow accounts. Songs were composed about her deeds.
After the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1851 she used her rank for diplomacy. In the summer of 1854 she traveled north with a small party to treat with the Gros Ventre of her birth. Near the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers a Gros Ventre party ambushed them and killed her and the Crow men with her.
Her career is one of the better-documented cases of a woman attaining formal chiefly rank among the Upper Missouri tribes through war honors. No comparable female war leader is recorded among the Crow after her. The primary contemporary account comes from Denig’s writings of 1855–1856, based on more than a decade of personal knowledge.

Weight-space programming is like editing images pixel by pixel. It works great, but imagine what you can do in a latent space of model weights! That’s what Weight Space Learning is about. WSL = Stable Diffusion for weights.
Neural network weights are a novel modality in machine learning - that's amazing! "Weight-space programming" shows its potential for editing other neural networks' weights. But there is more.
These are the slides from my keynote at the @icmlconf Workshop on "Weight-Space Symmetries" providing an overview of this research area:
Thanks to the organizers for inviting me: @yanii, @BorisAKnyazev, @KateLobacheva, @adnan_ahmad1306, @orvieto_antonio, Alexander Theus.

The idea of "programming language" is looks obvious today - but how did we get from plugging cables or punching idiosyncratic codes on a tape to a language as an independent entity?
