RT @DrKristieLeong: Walking is wonderful for your heart and mood. Still, it’s not enough to protect your joints. It doesn’t build the strength or stability needed to prevent arthritis, tendinitis, or chronic pain. Strength training is the real long‑term safeguard. Think of walking as the warm‑up, not the whole plan. No weights? Try doing bodyweight exercises, like: 1.Push-Ups 2.Squats 3.Lunges 4.Wall Sits 5.Planks Walking gets you moving, but strength keeps you moving. Which of these five exercises are you adding to your routine? #JointHealth #StrengthTraining

RT @SarahClarkBDM: Reducing smoking and air pollution through stronger public health policies is essential to preventing chronic respiratory diseases like COPD. Prevention and early intervention can help protect lung health and reduce the long-term burden on healthcare systems. #digitalhealth
    Dr Alexey Kulikov @KulikovUNIATF
“Chronic respiratory 🫁 diseases, such as COPD, are largely preventable, and therefore public health policies must be aimed at eliminating their risk factors, such as smoking and air pollution,” emphasizes José Luis Castro, special envoy of the @WHO Director-General. In an interview with the EFE news agency, @JLCastroGarcia, who minutes earlier had delivered an “Inspirational Lecture” at the “Visionaries, Innovation and Future” event, stresses that “it is unacceptable that around four million people die each year because countries fail to adopt the necessary preventive measures against chronic respiratory diseases.”

RT @RicardoMTorr: From Fasting to Caloric Restriction: State of the Art and Clinical Implications ▶️ This review provides a state-of-the-art overview of fasting-based & CR-based interventions, including prolonged fasting, alternate-day fasting, semi-fasting, fasting-mimicking diets, & time-restricted feeding, w/particular emphasis on their role in metabolic health. ▶️ Current evidence supports beneficial effects of these nutritional interventions on body weight, adiposity, insulin sensitivity, inflammatory tone, & selected cardiometabolic risk factors. ▶️ Adopting severe CR strategies, particularly for individuals w/chronic diseases or specific nutritional vulnerabilities, requires a careful evaluation of potential benefits & risks in the context of the individual’s clinical situation. @DHPSP @DrRPalmquist @Mangan150

RT @agingdoc1: Biological age in the meta omics era: Integrating physical activity, sleep, and diet to reshape paths of healthy ageing "Biological age provides a translational endpoint linking modifiable lifestyle behaviors—physical activity, sleep, and diet—to multi-omics changes and downstream clinical outcomes. Integrating multiple ageing clocks with inflammatory, metabolic, and oxidative pathways supports reproducible, intervention-ready strategies to slow ageing and extend healthspan."

RT @KulikovUNIATF: A new study suggests that #physicalactivity protects the hearts of people with type 2 diabetes, and that part of this effect shows up in the blood. Researchers followed 6,887 UK Biobank participants with type 2 #diabetes for a median of 15 years, during which there were 974 major cardiovascular events. Compared with the least active, moderately active people had a 17% lower risk of heart attack, stroke or cardiovascular death, and highly active people had a 27% lower risk. The benefit levelled off at around 3,500–4,000 MET-minutes a week. NMR metabolomics found that about a quarter of this protection was linked to changes in #inflammation (GlycA), albumin, glucose and lipid profiles. The vigorous-intensity pathway accounted for the largest share, while #walking kept the strongest direct association.

RT @SarahClarkBDM: Placing health warnings directly on vaping devices could make the risks more visible and discourage young people from trying e-cigarettes. These findings highlight how product design and clear messaging can influence tobacco-related choices.
    Dr Alexey Kulikov @KulikovUNIATF
A new study in @CJPH_RCSP suggests that health warnings 🚭 printed directly on #vaping devices could reduce their appeal, especially among young people who have never vaped. Researchers ran a discrete choice experiment with almost 3,000 people in Alberta, Ontario and Québec: 1,839 nonusers aged 16–29 and 1,122 current #ecigarette users. Participants chose between vape pods, heated tobacco and cigarettes, with #warnings, packaging, nicotine strength and price varied each time. When every product carried a warning, the probability that nonusers chose “none” rose from 0.50 to 0.65, and for users from 0.10 to 0.18. Warnings did not push anyone towards cigarettes. Warnings on vapes and heated tobacco have not yet been adopted in Canada. These findings suggest they belong in a #prevention package alongside pricing and clear communication about relative risk.

RT @DrKristieLeong: Chickpeas have zinc. Your body just doesn’t get most of it. - 1 cup of cooked chickpeas has about 2–2.5 mg of zinc. Sounds decent - until phytate locks a big chunk of it in the gut so you absorb far less than the label suggests. That’s the plant-zinc trap: you eat the food, miss the mineral, then wonder why immunity, skin, and recovery still feel off. The cheap fix sitting in your fridge: onion. Sulfur compounds in onion help keep zinc in a form your gut can actually transport and boost zinc bioaccessibility. Do this tonight: Fold raw or lightly cooked onion into hummus, chana, chickpea salad, or roasted chickpeas. Garlic works on the same pathway. What’s your favorite chickpea combo: hummus, curry, salad, or roasted?

RT @SarahClarkBDM: Heat is now among the largest climate-related health threats. The report estimates that the average annual toll rose by nearly 36% after the Paris Agreement was introduced. Worth sharing ahead of COP31. #Heat #ClimateAndHealth #healthcare #digitalhealth
    Dr Alexey Kulikov @KulikovUNIATF
The 2026 report of @LancetCountdown ahead of #COP31, finds that the health toll of #heat has grown sharply over the past decade. Heat was linked to an average of 540,800 deaths a year in 2016–2023. In 2023 alone, the hottest year in that period, it was linked to a record 710,000 deaths, more than malaria or HIV. Heat also worsens chronic conditions such as heart, lung 🫁 and kidney disease, so people living with #NCDs noncommunicable diseases are among the most exposed. The report also points to progress on protection: more countries are adopting national health adaptation plans and #climate-informed early warning systems. Preparing #health systems for #heatwaves, from early warnings to protecting older people and those with chronic disease, is prevention that pays off now.

RT @FatigueMe92484: Anterior Insula Cortex / Pain / Hypersensitivity / Emotion These findings demonstrate that AIC activity regulates both sensory hypersensitivity and pain-related emotional behaviors in chronic NP. By showing concurrent modulation of nociceptive and affective dimensions, this study provides physiological evidence supporting the AIC as a key cortical node linking pain processing to emotional behavior and underscoring its relevance for integrative neuromodulatory strategies. Anterior insular cortex neurostimulation modulates sensory hypersensitivity and pain-related emotional behaviors in a rat model of chronic neuropathic pain - PubMed
