#QueryTips

#QueryTips We understand sending lots of queries out at the same time. BUT! Make sure you’re not sending to two agents at the same agency. Prioritize one agent and match their manuscript wishlist with your query!

I just opened for queries on Thursday afternoon and have already received hundreds of submissions. One thing I ask (via query manager) is to include comps of recently published, similar books in your query. They are important throughout the publishing process! #QueryTips

One of the most important parts of your query is a good hook or logline! Make sure to research examples! A strong hook will help catch an agent's attention. #querytips #cmalit #writingtips #writing

“Not for me.” “Didn’t connect.” It’s easy to take rejection personally. But every agent is just one reader. Your job? Find the right one. #AmQuerying #QueryTips

Your agent is going to be your partner for–potentially–years to come. They are going to be your fighters for your book. So don’t overthink your query. Let your manuscript shine and let the agent see what and who they’ll be working with! Don’t be afraid to be yourself. #querytips

Don’t forget to mention comps in your query! Even if your work is the most original title in the world, include comps. #QueryTips

"Not for me" "Didn’t connect" "Doesn’t fit my list" If you’ve ever wanted to scream into the void after reading one of those—this post is for you. 👉 #QueryTips #writingcommunity #amwriting #amquerying

To the writer wondering if their story is “too weird”: Weird is marketable. Weird is memorable. Just make sure weird also has structure. Otherwise, it’s chaos in a trench coat. #AmWriting #QueryTips

Let your passion shine through in your query! Don’t get too caught up in the formal aspect of it all and let that cloud how in love you are with your manuscript. #querytips

As a general reminder, CMA is a boutique agency with multiple agents. Don't forget to specify who you're querying in your email, and avoid querying two agents at once with the same project. Wait to hear back from one agent before reaching out to another. #QueryTips

Yall, I am getting at least 2-3 novellas a week in our slush pile for Westwood. There are like... I don't know, three imprints in all of the US that I can think of that publish novellas regularly? If you're a debut author, that's a hell of an ask. #QueryTips

Lunch break #askagent! Anyone got any questions? In the meantime, here's a thread of #querytips!

Newbie writer question: Can you query the same agent with multiple manuscripts? I.e. if they reject one, can you query then with a different project? #querytips #amquerying #writingcommmunity #writingtips #amwriting

Before sending a query out, do research on the agent you are sending it to, and make sure it aligns with their interests! Do not send it to multiple people from the same agency. #querytips #writingcommunity #writerslife #query #amquery #askanagent

Some #querytips as a lit intern and past querying writer myself. This is also to ease some minds as well 🩷 🧵 1. You do NOT need writing credentials. It doesn't matter if you went to school for bio-engineering or didn't go to school at all, as long as your book is, for the most

My team and I will be looking at queries together today and discussing potential manuscripts we've read. Some authors might be getting some good news today. I think I may also tweet some #Querytips today. I haven't done that in a while. Stay tuned. #amagenting #WritingCommunity

That agent you follow tweeted a MSWL that applies to your MS? Send them a query! Do not pitch them unsolicited on Twitter. #querytips
