"The most common discipline involved in the delivery of science of learning programmes is Computing Science." CS in Scotland is yet to be a core subject & has the worst uptake & largest gender gap compared to other traditional STEM subjects. #SaveComputingScience

@C_Hendrick This is fascinating. Computing Science is the discipline that does most to deliver programmes using the science of learning. @C_Hendrick @ScullionToni @chrisvdk #rED23

"This gap...stems largely from a lack of CS teachers which threatens to undermine Scotland’s future tech workforce. “We are not delivering enough,” ...ddressing this shortage is critical to preventing “disaster in the coming years.” #SaveComputingScience

The challenges facing Computing Science are so intertwined, but I remain completely optimistic that we can fix them. This isn't an impossible situation – it's fixable! #SaveComputingScience

We need ‘strategic interventions’ to arrest decline, says computing science teaching campaigner. Toni Scullion says latest teacher census numbers are "alarming" for the subject, but recruitment issues can be solved with the right policies ⬇️

ScotGov Teacher Intake Figures 2025: Physics: Target 131, Actual 42 Chemistry: Target 159, Actual 54 Biology: Target 163, Actual 88 Maths: Target 250, actual 75(!) These are worrying figures caused (imo) by a lack of permanent jobs post probation. Something must be done

This is great to see! Fantastic to hear @djohnsonmsp highlight the issue of lack of CS teachers being "national importance" & of "critical importance to the tech sector." We are 9 CS teachers away from having the lowest number of CS teachers on record. #SaveComputingScience

Great to see this mentioned. "Tech entrepreneurs will highlight the importance of CS teachers in our schools...what is more we are only seeing handfuls CS teachers going through teacher training. This is an issue of national importance." @djohnsonmsp #SaveComputingScience

😔 💔 to see this, but not at all surprising! CS continues to have the least number of teachers compared to traditional STEM subjects, the least places to train as a teacher, the worst overall uptake and the largest gender gap. #SaveComputingScience

It's concerning to see that the number of CS teachers in Scotland has fallen further to 550, down from the already critically low figure of 578 reported last year. #SaveComputingScience
