Wow!! CS in Scottish schools is yet to be a core subject, no equity of access and compared to STEM subjects, CS has the worst uptake, largest gender gap & least amount of teachers 💔 #SaveComputingScience

This is great to see! Fantastic to hear @djohnsonmsp highlight the issue of lack of CS teachers being "national importance" & of "critical importance to the tech sector." We are 9 CS teachers away from having the lowest number of CS teachers on record. #SaveComputingScience

    Daniel Johnson MSP @DJforEdS
Computer studies provision in our schools is vital to the technology ecosystem and to the wider economy. That is why the report published this week by @reformscotland showing that 32,000 pupils in 1 in 8 Scottish schools don't have a single computer studies teacher, was so damning. 15 years of declining teacher numbers risks undermining the progress our technology sector has made. Indeed, Scotland’s Chief Entrepreneur Mark Logan described his efforts trying to reform the system as akin to "dragging a heavily sedated bull elephant backwards through cold treacle". We need action not words from the government if we are to give our school leavers the best chance possible to lead the technological revolution.
