A compromised LiteLLM 1.107.0 release added files that Python could execute during normal interpreter initialization. Applications did not need to import LiteLLM for the payload to run; starting Python in an affected environment could be enough. Microsoft analyzed two execution paths: a credential collector targeting authentication material across developer tools, cloud environments, browsers, and infrastructure, and a Unix-oriented loader capable of retrieving and executing additional Python code. Endpoint observations on Windows and macOS matched the collector’s discovery, encryption, and outbound connection behavior. Starting Python in an affected environment could activate the payload, so investigators should avoid using Python or pip during evidence collection. Read the Microsoft Security research for analysis of the startup mechanisms, credential exposure, Defender detections, hunting queries, indicators of compromise, and recovery guidance.

📰 Missed a few days of AI news? Here's what happened this week in Data Points, our twice-weekly newsletter. 👇 🔐 PHP2Shell: GPT-5.6 Sol helped find a memory bug in software running up to 70% of sites. Patch is out. Update now. ⚡ MiniMax M3.1 Flash: 428B total / ~23B active, 1M context, 0.15/0.60 per million tokens. Weights due Oct 23. 🔌 Meta's Muse Wonder: 4/20 per million tokens, OpenAI compatible endpoint. Trying it = new base URL + model name. No full safety report yet. 🐍 Python 3.15 is out, 3.10 is end of life. Lazy imports (PEP 810), unpacking in comprehensions (PEP 798), sampling profiler in the stdlib. 🏛️ GPT-6.1 Sol achieved 97.9% byte for byte output parity migrating COBOL at higher effort. GPT-5.6 Sol only scored 5.4% at low effort. Expert review still required. 📬 Subscribe to Data Points: #DeepLearningAI #AIEngineering #SoftwareEngineering

We reserved broad replication for small, critical datasets like authentication metadata needed on every request. In-region caches served frequently accessed data, such as settings and application state. Lastly, rewriting the service layer in Rust reduced proxy overhead.
