The #wxPython GUI framework includes widgets that let you create cross-platform video players. The following examples uses a hard-coded path to an MP4 file, but with a little work, you can add a menu and some buttons to control the application! 🐍🔥21255
@driscollis#wxPython supports absolute positioning of its widgets (i.e. specifying exact locations in pixels) as well as using relative positioning using Sizers. Sizers are the preferred method and it's much more flexible. Here's an example using three buttons in a `wx.BoxSizer`103
@driscollisThe story of my first #Python book begins with my blog @mousevspython I first started blogging about Python because I was learning Python at the time and didn't want to forget what I was learning!105
@driscollisAmazingly, people started reading the blog, and then they started telling me that I should write a book. I think it was mostly people from the #wxPython community wanting a new book on wxPython101
@driscollisThe #wxPython demo is also really cool. It lets you try out most of wxPython's widgets AND see the code used to create them. The demo also lets you edit the code and see how it changes the demo live. I wrote about the wxPython demo here:105

#Python includes another tool that is kind of like a lambda called partials. You can use partials by importing them from `functools`: 🧵🐍👇32818736.9K
@driscollisIf you happen to be a #wxPython user, you might run into situations where you want to pass along some data to a callback (i.e. when a widget fires an event) You can do that with partial too:35215.3K
@driscollisAfter my unscientific survey, my second book, Python 201: Intermediate Python came out Python 201 is a neat book. A lot of it is also on my blog as articles104

@__mharrison__@__mharrison__ This reminds me of the time someone went to the effort of stealing my #wxPython book and creating a brand new cover and a slightly altered intro... I'm still somewhat impressed by the cover2217
