Roger AvaryRT @MoviesThatMaher: Where is Zack Snyder’s Next Film? Zack Snyder's The Last Photograph premiered at TIFF on September 13, and more than a month later, it still has no distributor. The film Snyder has been trying to make since the mid-2000s and shelved in 2016, then self-produced through his Stone Quarry banner screened as an acquisition title, and no studio or streamer has picked it up yet. Snyder even joked before the premiere that it might be the only time the film is ever shown. The reasons are not hard to guess. The movie was shot in just 32 days in Colombia on a reported $10 million budget, with Snyder serving as his own cinematographer, and the TIFF reaction was rough, it sits around 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it bloated, grim, and overlong. Reports from the festival said buyers who screened it found the violence excessive and the production quality below what they'd expect, and TIFF didn't even arrange a press screening for it. So the strangest part of the story is that the update is that there is no update. A former DEA operative searching the South American jungle for his missing niece and nephew, shot by one of the most famous directors alive, and right now its only public screening is a single TIFF premiere. If a buyer doesn't step in soon, Snyder's passion project risks becoming the rare movie that premiered at a major festival and simply vanished.024083
I say yes!Pulp Time @pulptimetvCan AI bring something new to a classic horror film? Thursday 10/29 at 5PM PT we're screening Francis Ford Coppola's DEMENTIA 13, followed by an AI-generated reimagining of one of its scenes with director Jason Ferrell in attendance. Watch on Pulp Time.35301.4K
I started the week off by watching Olivier Assayas' excellent slow-burn The Wizard of the Kremlin. Paul Dano is excellent, metering his speech in a soft and languidly potent crawl, and though Jude Law doesn't even attempt to hide his English accent he's a perfect stand-in for Vladimir Putin. Roger AvaryRT @RoyPrice: Most of the people who promoted mismanagement in media over the past 8 years are now out of power and that regime is over. If you’re a mid-level apparatchik who was aligned with that cause, can you pivot your brand from super political to super entertaining? We will see.080102

Roger AvaryRT @fiveoutofnine: So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.08.9K0109
Roger AvaryRT @aworthystory: Alfred Hitchcock, a master of cinema, once said: “For me, a film is 99% finished with the screenplay… Sometimes, I dream of an IBM machine in which I’d insert the screenplay at one end, and the film would emerge on the other end complete and in color.” He not only dreamt of what super intelligence is today… But he likely also knew the etymology of the word “cinema”, which literally means “to write movement”. Once you realize that your human-made script is cinema in itself… Any tool you use to bring it to life (including AI) doesn’t make it any less cinematic than any other artist using a different tool to do it.021097

I finally bit the bullet and updated my iPhone from iOS18 to iOS27.0.1 and it’s such crap now. Everything is noticeably worse. Steve Jobs warned of this when he spoke of the salesmen running the company. I’m seeing his cautionary warning in action.3481756.2K
