Rendered and animated by a BBC BASIC program, this illustrates how a regular heptagon can be dissected into eight pieces, which can then be re-arranged into a larger heptagon - but with a heptagonal hole in the middle! #bbcbasic

3D animation is easy in 'BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0', although the lighting was tricky here because of all the individual cogs. I ended up with six lights which I think is more than I've used before. You can also run it in your browser at #bbcbasic

I managed finally to convert an earlier version of our art program in BBC basic for windows to BBC basic for sdl. This means I can now paint on my ipad. Took a few days and used a.i for button help. This was painted very naturally with my finger just now on the iPad. #bbcbasic

@EghamJam @martinohanlon @StaffordRJam Guessing its the newer RISC OS Direct release ( Its designed to be a bit more newbie friendly, and comes with a bunch of pre-installed software. And yes, RISC OS 5 was released under the Apache licence back in 2018.

I've updated BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0, the cross-platform programming language for Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS and in-browser, to v1.40a. It comes with the program 'vampire' to draw this aperiodic monotile tessellation (with no reflections!) #bbcbasic

3D Christmas Bauble animated by 'BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0'. The music, also played by BBC BASIC, is 'Prepare Thyself, Zion' from J.S.Bach's Christmas Oratorio; it was transcribed for Z80 Music by Gerald Pye on 27th September 1981. #bbcbasic

In 1981 @McgoughRoger co-authored the program POEM supplied on the BBC Micro Welcome Tape. In a nice twist, this image was Colour Recovered (using a BBC BASIC program) from a recently discovered black-and-white film recording of The Scaffold performing in December 1968. #bbcbasic

    Wow, how time flies. The BBC Micro's successor, containing Acorn's now-ubiquitous #arm technology, still runs RISC OS today and incorporates #BBCBasic as standard. #raspberrypi #opensource #risc_os #green #computing #education #LearnToCode #Python #Lua

Forty years ago the original (6502) BBC BASIC had just been sent by Acorn to Hitachi for masked ROM manufacture, freezing the version that would be used in the BBC Microcomputer. And twenty years ago today the very first version of 'BBC BASIC for Windows' was released. #bbcbasic

I have converted David Williams's nice Gorillas game to run in 'BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0'. This involved replacing the Windows-specific GFXLIB2 functions with near equivalents from the SDL2 API. You can run it yourself in a suitable browser: #bbcbasic
