What are your favorite (potentially long) mathematician quotes? Bonus points if it's not just a pithy restatement of "math is beautiful", but something which changes how you think.

@3blue1brown From @jamestanton explaining how to perform division with #ExplodingDots, and that if you need a dot just draw an antidot... "You can do whatever you want, you just have to deal with the consequences." I've been saying this line at least once a day since I heard it.

Do you like this #explodingdots approach to analysing 0.9999.... ? (It's a place value chart. Ten dots in any one box is equivalent to one dot, one place to the left. Adding a dot and an antidot (that is, a "tod," as kids beautifully call ia) to any box adds nothing.)

The life of an international math star - waiting for an Uber at the Sheraton San Gabriel someone (a lovely middle school principal) runs up to @jamestanton shouting #explodingdots!! For a selfie. Never met before!

Given a number, erase its final digit & subtract double that digit from what remains. Original number is a multiple of 3, 7, 21 only if the new number is. Why? Keep going. Get divis rules for 3, 7, 21! It's Global Math Week #gmw2023 for #explodingdots fun.
