There is a very insidious push to deanonymize the entire internet. Very disappointing that X is following suit and just mindlessly following the lead of subversive foreign run companies like google and meta.

The software engineering behind the X "algorithm" is epic. It has to distill 500 million daily tweets down to a personalized handful it shows each person. This algorithm runs ~57,000 times a second 🤯 ... and each execution takes 220 seconds CPU time, but runs in 1.5 seconds real time on average, which means compute is distributed across 12+ million CPU cores working continuously. Each step of recommendation algorithm pipeline is fascinating: maintaining real-time interaction graph, embedding spaces for clustering interests, ranking via 48M param neural net, etc. I love that it's mostly been made open source, and hope more companies do the same!

The latest 𝕏 algorithm is now on GitHub. So I used Grok Build to analyze it. The biggest takeaway: X is no longer a simple likes/replies system. It's a Grok-powered recommendation engine. 10 things creators need to know:

25 algorithms every programmer should know: Let's start with my top favorite 10. If nothing else, you should read about these algorithms and have a good idea of how they work: 1. Linear search to find an element in a list 2. Binary search to find an element on a sorted list 3. Bubble sort to sort a list 4. Merge sort will also sort lists 5. Quicksort to sort the list and do it fast 6. Dijkstra to find the shortest path in a graph 7. Breadth-first Search (BFS) for trees or graphs 8. Depth-first search (DFS) for trees or graphs 9. Huffman for doing data compression 10. Anything related to dynamic programming Learning about algorithms is like getting tattoos: you never have enough. Here are another 5 algorithms that will help you go beyond the basics: 11. Kruskal for the finding minimum spanning tree 12. Floyd Warshall, shortest paths in a graph 13. Union Find to detect cycles in a graph 14. Bellman-Ford, shortest path in a graph 15. Lee for finding the shortest path in a maze If you are serious about this topic, I recommend learning about algorithms' space and time complexity. People usually refer to this topic as "Big O" notation. You should build a good intuition about the performance of different algorithms and learn how to evaluate them. Machine Learning will rule the next 50 years, so the next 10 algorithms you can't ignore are the following: 16. Linear Regression 17. Logistic Regression 18. Decision Trees 19. Bayes' theorem 20. k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) 21. Every algorithm related to neural networks 22. K-means 23. Random forest 24. Gradient boosting algorithms 25. Any dimensionality reduction algorithm (PCA, for instance) There are many more mind-blowing algorithms! I haven't found a better way to understand how computers work from a first-principles point of view than reading about different algorithms. Take a look at the attached video.

We analyzed the NEW X Algorithm changes so you don't have to. Here's what the X algorithm favors and what you should do to capitalize: The new ranking model predicts a BUNDLE of actions, like dwell time, reposts, photo expands, replies, etc., for every post. Then it combines them into a single score. 🟢 What Gets Pushed: → Posts people stop scrolling to read, which increases DWELL time, because X sees it as a post people are interested in reading, learning from, or something that is deemed valuable. → Replies and reposts, which are ranked higher than likes. → Video that holds attention, as X now checks duration and qualified views separately, with emphasis on watch time. → Clicks, profile visits, and bookmarks, as X sees these actions originating from the content itself being WORTHY of being bookmarked, for example. 🔴 What Gets Buried: → Duplicate posts and unoriginal content, as X puts a higher ranking on NEW content and ideas. → Content that receives "not interested" taps, mutes, or reports. → Muted keyword matches. 🤝 Actionable Advice to Rank Higher: → Write for replies and reposts: Ask questions, stake opinions, leave open loops. → Front-load your hook: Dwell time starts the moment someone pauses. → Optimize video content for completion: The algorithm separates qualified views from unqualified ones and checks duration. A 45-second video watched to the end beats a 5-minute video abandoned at 10 seconds. → Encourage saves and shares over likes. These are higher-intent actions that weight more in the combined rank score.
