When @swissborg began offering DeFi yields in 2020, Ether paid 20% and stablecoins 40% or more. On our onchain yield panel, @Cyrus_Fazel, Founder and CEO of @swissborg, described what tends to follow in each cycle. As the market turns, projects chase higher yields, risk builds up, and protocols that were never battle-tested break. He had the whole room repeat his rule with him: “If you don’t know where the yield is coming from, you are the yield.” #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

When people talk about tokenization, they picture bonds, funds and real estate. Francesco Fabracci (@FraFabracci ) starts the story elsewhere: with the US dollar. At the Onchain Leaders Gathering, Francesco, Head of Tokenization Expansion at @tether, explained why Tether sees USDt as the first tokenized asset. It took off because people around the world needed a different version of the dollar. Hadron (@hadron_tether), Tether’s tokenization platform, now extends that same vision to fixed income, equity and real estate, for people who can’t reach those products today. If it were up to you, what would you tokenize next? #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Add KYC to DeFi. Then intermediaries, regulatory disclosures and corporate governance. What are you left with? Moderating our tokenization panel for @Forbes, @IrinaHeaver put that question to the speakers from @UBS, @iEx_ec and @digitalasset. That is the tension at the core of institutional DeFi: each safeguard that makes it acceptable to banks also makes it look more like a bank. Has DeFi for institutions rebuilt the bank, or built something better? #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Not every yield is worth chasing. @Cyrus_Fazel, Founder and CEO of @swissborg, explained how the platform makes the call. On our onchain yield panel, Cyrus said SwissBorg has kept to medium-risk vaults so far, since at the high-risk end a loss can be total. Rather than decide on its own, SwissBorg put high-yield vaults to a vote of its users, and if they say yes, it plans to offer them through curators it trusts. The caution comes from experience. As projects take on more risk to pay more, Cyrus expects a number of them to run into trouble in the year ahead. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Back in 2020, Nathan (@TokenEconomist7 ) left private banking at @Barclays in Geneva, and a comfortable salary with it, to start again from zero at a small crypto startup. During the Onchain Leaders Gathering, Nathan opened a talk on alternative investments with that story, and a bet that today’s crazy idea is a different kind of asset. Trading cards, music royalties, physical gold and yield on stablecoins were all on the list, with one question underneath: if AI ends up providing what we spend our money on, what should we do with that money? #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Curators decide where the money in a DeFi vault goes, and they like to call themselves risk managers. Florian Ducommun sees it differently. Closing our panel on onchain yield, the Co-Founder and CEO of @ColossusItaly argued that because curators control the assets, they are, technically speaking, wealth managers. For financial institutions looking at DeFi yield, his advice follows from that: work with regulated wealth management companies as curators, through a regulated counterparty that takes on the risk. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Privacy on a blockchain doesn’t have to mean hiding everything. On our tokenization panel, Nathan Chiron (@0xNatc), Chief Ecosystem & Revenue Officer at @iEx_ec, was asked about the privacy problem iExec is solving. Nathan started by drawing a line that often gets blurred. Anonymity hides everything onchain, which doesn’t work with regulation. Confidentiality is different: you keep ownership of what you put onchain and decide who can see what, and for what purpose. For banks and asset managers, that difference matters. You wouldn’t share your bank balance with a stranger, and you can’t show competitors how you make yield without showing them how your business works. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

On a public blockchain, every position is visible to everyone. Good for transparency, harder if you run a fund. Pitching @edeldotfinance at our startup competition, @andres_solt explained why many hedge funds and institutional traders stay away from public onchain markets. Everyone can see what they hold, and every large trade turns into a story online. Edel is building a private, institutional-grade perpetual futures exchange on @cantonnetwork, so that institutions can trade without putting their positions on display. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

"We all know that the bank accounts will become wallets.” Carmen Hett, Treasurer of @Refugees, the UN Refugee Agency, told our audience how UNHCR’s treasury now pays onchain. It began with Ukraine and has since scaled into Latin America: 3 years of aid delivered in stablecoins. The stablecoins go to non-custodial wallets that refugees control, can reuse and cash out. For many of them, that wallet is their first bank account. More than a billion people are underserved or unbanked. Carmen’s point: their money will increasingly live in their own wallets. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse

Should a bank build its own digital asset infrastructure, or buy it? 🤔 Philippe Meyer of @BBVASwitzerland answered on our banking panel: banks have always bought their vaults rather than built them, and digital vaults are no different. #OnchainLeadersGathering

Remember when everything was going to be tokenized? "The picture, the car, the house, the cat, whatever." On our banking panel, Nicolas Marxer, Head of Blockchain Banking at @BankFrick , looked back on that first wave. The hype went up hard and came back down. What's different now is stablecoins, and with them the use cases are finally real. For a bank, offering a tokenized money market fund is nothing new either. It's the same product, except that it trades around the clock. #OnchainLeadersGathering #DecentralHouse
