Frequently asked questions
Is Lurkbird free?
Yes. Lurkbird is free to use. There's no account to create, no paid plan and no ads.
Do I need an X account to use Lurkbird?
No. Public profiles, posts, search and trends all work without signing in to anything.
Will someone know I looked at their profile?
No. X doesn't notify people about profile views, and Lurkbird doesn't tell account owners who visited. Your X account isn't involved at all, because you never sign in here.
Is Lurkbird anonymous?
You don't need to give us anything: no email, no password, no X login. But no website is fully anonymous. Our servers see your IP address like any site does, we use Google Analytics to count visits (see our privacy policy), and images and videos load directly from X's media servers. If you need stronger privacy, use a trusted VPN as well.
Can I see private (protected) accounts?
No. Posts from protected accounts are only visible to approved followers on X, and Lurkbird never shows them. Suspended accounts aren't shown either.
Can Lurkbird show deleted posts?
No. Lurkbird isn't an archive and can't recover deleted posts. A post that was just deleted on X may stay visible here for a short time until our copy refreshes.
Can Lurkbird show direct messages?
No. Direct messages are private and Lurkbird has no access to them. We only show public profiles, posts, media and trends.
How do I download a video or image?
Open the post on Lurkbird and use the download button on the photo or video. The file streams from X's media servers and we don't store a copy. Only download media you have the right to use.
How up to date are posts and trends?
Trends refresh about every 5 minutes. Profiles and search results are fetched from X when someone asks for them and kept for a few minutes, so a post published seconds ago can take a little while to appear.
Can I browse a hashtag?
Yes. Tap a #hashtag in any post or in the trending list, or type it into the search box, to see public posts that use it. Lurkbird only shows public posts, so some posts you'd see on X may be missing.
Is Lurkbird affiliated with X?
No. Lurkbird is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by X Corp. We use the name X only to describe where the public posts come from.
I own an account shown on Lurkbird. Can I have it removed?
Yes. Send a request through our removal page. Once we've checked it, we'll hide your profile from Lurkbird. You can also make your account protected on X; protected accounts are never shown here.
