A traffic stop in Oakland led to the seizure of approximately two pounds of suspected fentanyl with the help of CHP K-9 Trooper. On October 10, California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division Crime Suppression Team conducted a traffic stop for a window tint violation. After the officer observed indicators of possible criminal activity, K-9 Trooper was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered the suspected fentanyl, and the driver was arrested on felony drug charges. Detective Jeff Smith of the Cherokee Indian Police Department in North Carolina died in the line of duty following a medical emergency during a foot pursuit.
