Liberal Democrats MP for Tiverton & Minehead, Rachel Gilmour, has come out in defence of "trail" hunting. Her fairytale adaptation of what really happens is quite frankly laughable.
Rachel has been quoted as saying “Trail hunting, far from being merely a weekend activity, forms part of a long and richly woven rural social fabric that binds farms, villages and families together through shared work, ritual, and memories." Her defence of this 20+ year law breaking reads like a Disney adaptation of what is actually a grim and violent world.
Rachel's comments come after Tiverton Town Council declared in November 2025 that the Tiverton Foxhounds are "not welcome in Tiverton on Boxing Day, or any other day”.
As well as the Tiverton Foxhounds, the Quantock Staghounds meet within Rachel's constituency. A hunt that does not profess to "trail" hunt, instead they use loopholes within the current Hunting Act to continue to terrorise not only wildlife in the area but Rachel's constituents and visitors to the area.
In opposition to stag hunting and to raise awareness of its barbarity, AAS Action Against Staghunting are holding a peaceful march in Tiverton on Saturday the 24th of October, where they will gather beside the bus station in Phoenix Lane, Tiverton.
