Late last year, the @WMO #GAW programme published new guidelines for measuring carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Experiences in setting up the ICOS network and Atmosphere station specifications fed into the final guidelines. Read the story:

To complement Paris’s emission inventories, #ICOSCities researchers from LSCE deployed a dense network of greenhouse gas concentration and flux sensors across central Paris, creating the largest and longest deployment of CO₂ sensors over any city. 👉

New paper out by Abin Thomas et al. on anomalous carbonyl sulfide (COS) fluxes, measured at the @HyytialaHY site after a thinning of the forest in 2019-2020. 👉Read more: @helsinkiuni @ICOS_Finland

The year 2025 saw ICOS data being used in a broad range of scientific studies, including: 🏙️ requirements for urban CO₂ monitoring 🚢 large-scale intercomparison of ocean pCO₂ instruments 🌐 research into network expansion and synergy 👉 Read more:

Making use of data from 38 stations in Europe, ICOS can report that the CO₂ level in the atmosphere increased with 3.08 ppm in 2025. This value exceeds the average over the past 10-20 years of about 2.5 ppm per year. Learn more about the #ICOSCurve:

With around 70% of global #GHGs originating from urban areas, cities need robust tools to measure emissions and track reduction progress. The Urban Emission Observation & Monitoring Guidelines are vital in these efforts. Read more & access the guidelines

ICOS celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2025, but some of our stations have been measuring greenhouse gases for decades before this. Long-term measurements are needed to analyse both long-term climatic trends and extreme events. 🌎🌪️ 👉 Read more:

The ICOS Curve interactive tool shows #CO2 levels and trends accurate to the previous month. Updated daily, it pulls in observation data on carbon dioxide from 38 ICOS Atmosphere stations in the Northern Hemisphere. Interact with the ICOS Curve here:

ICOS participates in the global efforts to build redundancy in global carbon measurement networks with its scientific expertise and 38 Atmosphere measurement stations. In November 25, the median CO2 in Europe was 435.38 ppm.
