WHAT DOES ZERO #OKPreps to 2375 COACHING WINS LOOK LIKE?
Got home a couple of weeks ago and Ellen said “I bought a program!”. Normally, that’s my line so I had to ask, “What one?” She said an old 1975-76 Northeastern State University Basketball program. Then I asked “Why?”
My assistant basketball coach back in my #OKPreps playing days at Wagoner was Hall of Famer JOE GORDON and he was a graduate of NSU in 1976. Not only was he my coach but a great influence in my life. He also had an incredible coaching career winning 351 games in his 21-year tenure at WAGONER
Then I do what I always do with these programs… who else is in here. I quickly saw the #OKPreps coaching totals grow substantially!
🏀 CLYDE BARKLEY (INOLA) 795 career wins🏆
🏀 DAVID PAGE (BLACKWELL/HOMINY/YALE/PAWNEE) 770 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
🏀 JERRY BELTON SR (BOYNTON) 459🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
🏀 JOE GORDON (WAGONER) 351
That a total of 2,375 career Boys Basketball #OKPreps coaching wins AND 13 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS !!
All of these incredible players turned coaches had an incredible mentor in Dr. Jack Dobbins who won 314 games at Northeastern State University in a coaching career that spanned from 1959 to 1981. He is still the winningest men's basketball coach in NSU Redman history.
So, as I always say with programs like this… “THIS IS GOLD!” And with all of those wins and State Championships, it truly was gold!
