In the Senate battleground states, data centers barely come up when voters talk about what matters to them. Asked in their own words for the most important issue facing their state, about 3% mention data centers. 49% name the economy and cost of living.

When voters explain why they’re backing their Senate candidate, fewer than 1% mention data centers. Republican voters from the survey pool never raise them, and Democratic voters do so only twice.

It’s the same story at the ballot box. Fewer than 1% cite data centers as the main reason for backing their congressional candidate. Instead, Republican voters point mostly to party identity and opposition to Democrats. Democratic voters point mostly to opposition to President Trump and the Republican candidate. The city of Quincy, Washington, and @Microsoft partnered to build the Quincy Water Reuse Utility, a closed-loop system that treats the cooling water from Microsoft’s data center and sends it back for reuse. According to an @EPA case study, the system substantially reduces the data center’s reliance on potable groundwater for data center cooling, saving an estimated 138 million gallons of water per year. It also accommodates future growth and stabilizes rates for municipal wastewater treatment. ⬇️

Do data centers actually create jobs where they are built? Research from finance and economics professors says yes. A study of 1,500+ U.S. data centers found that counties hosting data centers gain about 1,000-1,300 additional non-construction jobs within 3-5 years of opening. Read more:

I love tech policy, but the "this election is about AI" people need a reality check. Democrats' midterm ads on health care have out-numbered AI ads nearly 30 to 1.

Quincy, Washington: Data centers pay 57% of the community’s property taxes. That revenue funded a new police station, city hall, hospital, water and sewer system, and high school, without raising taxes on residents.
