Today I was able to place several artworks with a collector. Always a good feeling when early digital and generative pieces find a careful home. The conversations around them were just as rewarding as the placements themselves.

Great to be in Paris last thursday for computer art pioneer Leslie Mezei’s opening at RCM Galerie. The show sold out that night. It was a special evening, reflecting a growing appetite for digital art and its origins. Delighted to have acquired an artwork.

Before “digital art” had a name, artists in New Tendencies were working with rules, repetition and movement. Some made paintings and objects; others would turn to computers. What connected them was a way of thinking about art: as something to explore, test and share. /1

Long time since a museum show of digital art kept resonating with me for days afterwards. The Vera Molnar exhibition at the @V_and_A is that rare thing: beautiful and alive. Her pioneering systems still feel fresh next to today’s generative artists like @harmvddorpel & @mattdesl . Loved every minute of it.

Exhibition catalogues are still one of the best ways into early digital art. Installation views, forgotten names, technical notes. Sometimes a small black & white reproduction tells you more than a perfect image online.
