Many areas with price pressure (housing and higher education) have tight regulation like zoning and licensing. They're also government-guaranteed (mortgages and student loans) so homeowners and universities jack up prices on Uncle Sam's nickel. Need fewer subsidies, deregulation.

The Biden team is pushing back against the "a $3.5t reconciliation package is inflationary" narrative by arguing that it would reduce the price pressures average families face, counteracting Baumol's cost disease on child care, elder care, education, etc.

Hamlet without the prince. Long NYT condemnation of downtown office monocultures fails to mention real cause: progressive zoning regulation that prevents new uses.

More rezonings = more housing. We need to defeat candidates who oppose this.
    Ben Carlos Thypin @SoBendito
It says a lot about structural NIMBYism that so many of our city’s long shot and/or crank political candidates focus their campaigns on opposing rezonings.

My latest, on how the 15th Amendment and Reconstruction anti-KKK laws create liability for those who hinder elections on the basis of race. Or threaten officials (as Trump did to Ga. Gov. Kemp on Sunday) in order to overturn elections. via @BulwarkOnline

NYT crusades to keep even the most wasteful programs: "Smaller communities that rely on [Amtrak] service could be badly hurt." These places already rely on frequent buses. Trains run at most once a day & feature slow speeds, big delays.

RT @tonywendice1954: I’m obviously way too dumb to understand this but can someone explain to me how it’s “racist” to expect people to pay a subway fare?
    Brianne K. Nadeau @BrianneKNadeau
Today I voted to uphold fare evasion decriminalization. The more we commit to using the lens of race equity in all we do in government, the sooner we will be able to rectify the real crime here, which is perpetuating racist government systems in our own government. #ItsNotFare

RT @tonywendice1954: I may be a cold SOB (a distinct possibility) but I don’t think HOW a case would affect a person should enter a Supreme Court Justice’s thinking when deciding a case. All that should matter is WHAT the law and Constitution says. Period.

RT @realDonaldTrump: Why is the United States Post Office, which is losing many billions of dollars a year, while charging Amazon and others so little to deliver their packages, making Amazon richer and the Post Office dumber and poorer? Should be charging MUCH MORE!
