RT @allisonreichel: The Fed's trimming inflation. But is it trimming the truth? My latest on trimmed-mean inflation, Kevin Warsh, and the economics of choosing what we see.

RT @kyletorpey: Throwback to when Google announced end-to-end encryption features for Gmail after the Snowden revelations and then quietly abandoned the project 3 years later to make sure they could "provide added value" by scanning everyone's emails.

RT @EconWithNick: FinCEN identified 21 cases over 19 years to justify a 3,281% increase in the number of reports. Yet, after crunching the numbers, @PacificLegal's @MitchellScacchi and Luke Wake found that those cases only represent 0.00014% of the reports filed. Rather than expand, it's time to cut back.

RT @janskapa: Please retweet. @Wise has blindsided us and put our business at risk. This is insane. We’ve been a Wise customer for years, using their USD bank account to accept payments from our US clients. Today, I discovered that Wise has capped how much we can send or withdraw from our account at roughly 40% of our usual monthly volume. No advance notice. No explanation. We’re suddenly at risk of being unable to make payments on time. Luckily, we have other accounts. Some clients also pay us in Bitcoin. But most of our money comes into Wise. How can @Wise do this after we’ve been a customer for years and processed millions of dollars through it? Customer support can’t help us. We’ve filed a complaint, but who knows if it will go anywhere. In the meantime, we can’t get our money out. We’re being held hostage.

RT @coincenter: When we anthropomorphize AI, it makes it easy for the public to support tight controls. Treating AI like a force of nature that can only be yoked, or a victim that can experience torture, makes the policy conversation deeply unserious. The same controls meant to prevent a “rogue” agent from hacking an unmaintained government database can also prevent the very tools necessary for cybersecurity in this new technological landscape. Instead, we’ll depend on trusted actors keeping a hand on the reins when we use the AI tools that are increasingly becoming extensions of ourselves.

RT @web3privacy: Publishing software can become a civil-liberties issue. @LewellenMichael x @turnkeyhq , security researcher and @coincenter fellow, developed @Pharos, a non-custodial crowdfunding protocol, and brought a legal challenge seeking clarity about publishing it without money-transmission liability. After dismissal, he appealed to the Fifth Circuit with Coin Center’s support. His background includes auditing software securing billions of dollars and advising organisations on using blockchain tools safely. Michael joins Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress 3 with direct experience connecting software development, financial privacy and the freedom to publish code. 2 Nov · Mumbai · Free entry

RT @ArmandDoma: the cowardly thing about John Oliver in my opinion is that he never ever ever ever ever challenges the biases of his overwhelmingly liberal audience or presents them with any information that might cause them to question their existing beliefs. it’s all just partisan comfort food

RT @localghost: We finally have an explanation for “Facebook is listening to me through my phone”. They’d never do that (and it’s not really possible). Turns out literally everyone else was — and then selling that to ad data brokers.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

RT @Bkclaims: I have a completely unscientific theory about Michelin restaurants: 1 star: Fantastic. Great food, serious cooking, no nonsense. 2 stars: Often unbearable. Haute cuisine at its most self-conscious. 14 courses, tweezers, foam, and an elaborate philosophical explanation of a carrot. 3 stars: Somehow fantastic again. The absurdity becomes so extreme, the execution so extraordinary, that it transcends pretension and becomes art. The Michelin paradox: 1 is great, 2 is terrible, 3 is sublime.
