    🇷🇸 Congratulations to the Student List on winning Serbia’s elections, igniting a democratic rebirth across the Balkan nation. 🪧 From the streets to the ballot box, students, young people, and citizens have demanded accountability, justice, and change. In a record-turnout election, the newly formed anti-Vučić coalition secured a full majority in the country’s parliament despite serious concerns of corruption and voter intimidation. 🗳️ As PES President Stefan Löfven said: “Democracy is not simply inherited. It is defended, renewed and carried forward by every generation.” 🇪🇺 Today, their determination marks a hopeful new chapter for Serbia. Together with our sister parties, the Democratic Party (DS) and the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), we stand for a fairer, democratic, and European future.

    A budget is a political choice. Colombia’s 2027 budget, Senator Mary Jurado of @PactoCol told us, “hits every region and every sector, above all the poor.” Passed hours before we met at the Congress of the Republic, it reduced the peace tribunal’s allocation by more than 181 billion pesos. Representative @AlexandraPined_ warned that the new government intends “to violate women’s rights and take away gains the Colombian people won through decades of struggle.” The Progressive Alliance is on a three-day mission to build closer ties with Colombian progressives, understand the political shifts under the new right-wing government, and exchange regional and global analysis on confronting the far right.

    More than 800 million people live on less than $3 a day. Growth has cut extreme poverty since 1990, but progress has slowed, and growth alone will not finish the work. On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the choice is political: tax those with the most, including their wealth, and build welfare systems strong enough that a lost job or an illness does not become a lifetime of poverty.
