    Last week, I visited Carroll County for the J. Sidna Allen House Autumn Days. In my DC office, I display a box that Allen made himself. My great-grandmother purchased it from Allen when she and her bible study group went to pray for Allen in prison a century ago.

    We recognize October 10, 1774, to honor our amazing history. Colonel Andrew Lewis led brave Western Virginians at the Battle of Point Pleasant. Their actions opened the frontier, settlers moved west, forcing the British to cede territory to the U.S east of the Mississippi.
