Rep. George Whitesides✓

I recently met with Life Source Oasis, an organization that is working to help female veterans in the Antelope Valley. I look forward to continuing to work with them to fight for our veterans and to ensure they get the support they deserve.

The security of our elections should never be a partisan issue. Every eligible American has the right to vote in a free and fair election. As the Trump Administration escalates its attacks on our elections, I introduced the SHIELD Act alongside @RepZoeLofgren to protect our elections from unlawful federal interference and hold those who break the law accountable. Read more about our legislation:

RT @KHTSRadio: Tuesday, Rep. George Whitesides announced his introduction of the Public Safety Power Shutoff Data Transparency Act, directing the U.S. Department of Energy to establish a standardized federal reporting program for Public Safety Power Shutoff events.

Breaking news: New emails shine a light on the administration’s decision to cancel science grants — and raise questions of if they intentionally misled Congress in the process. This summer, I pressed the White House Science Advisor on whether political appointees were involved in cutting science grants. He denied it. Now, we have emails showing White House staff were involved. We need answers about why these grants were canceled and accountability for those responsible.

It was great to join the CalArts community for the unveiling of a student-created mural honoring our first responders and highlighting how Indigenous knowledge, including cultural burning, can help us better care for our land and reduce wildfire risk.  I’m grateful to the firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. Thank you to the students and artists who brought this important project to life!

People deserve to know when, why, and for how long, their power will be off. As thousands had their power shut off this weekend, it’s clear we need to improve communication, transparency and accountability. That’s why I introduced the Public Safety Power Shutoff Data Transparency Act, which would mandate up-to-date reports on when and where shutoffs will occur and ensure proper coordination with hospitals and other critical infrastructure sites.

We’re officially ONE WEEK out from Election Day! If you haven’t voted yet, now is the time to make a plan. You can mail in your ballot, drop it off at a local drop box, or vote in person. Visit to find a convenient location and make sure to cast your ballot by Tuesday, November 3rd!

Santa Clarita is rolling into the future! I stopped by Santa Clarita’s State of the City to celebrate the progress happening across our community, from new recreation spaces to investments that improve our quality of life. Thank you to the City Council, city employees, and all our local leaders for the work you do to keep Santa Clarita moving forward!

The bipartisan Congressional Military Range and Test Facility Caucus is officially launching! I’m proud to co-chair this caucus alongside @RepVinceFong, @KenCalvert, and @RepGabeVasquez to highlight the critical role our nation’s military ranges and test facilities play in our national security. From Plant 42 and NASA Armstrong to Edwards AFB, the Antelope Valley is at the forefront of developing and testing the next generation of American defense technology. This caucus will encourage the federal government to invest in the infrastructure, testing ranges, and skilled workforce that keep America competitive.

I was honored to join Three Heart Connection for the Antelope Valley Junior Thrivers Gala in Lancaster. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we recognize survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and support the work being done to help individuals and families find safety and healing. Thank you to Three Hart Connection for empowering young people, supporting survivors, and helping build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

I joined @AVAltaFC and Edwards Federal Credit Union to honor the eight crew members who lost their lives aboard the B-52 Stratofortress, Torch 11, during a test mission out of Edwards Air Force Base on June 15. I presented their families with flags flown over the U.S. Capitol in recognition of their loved ones’ service and sacrifice. To the families of Col. Gregory Watson, Lt. Col. Gabriel Estrella, retired Lt. Col. Miles Middleton, Maj. Alexander Davis, Maj. Robert Dee, Maj. Brad Hovey, Jeromy Smith, and Christopher Rischar: our community stands with you. We will never forget them.

Yesterday, I joined Pastor Chris Johnson and hundreds of volunteers in Lancaster for TeamUp’s Love Your City cleanup! Over 300 volunteers joined with city staff to help make one neighborhood cleaner and more beautiful. Days like yesterday show that we all have the power to create positive change, and help us connect with our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who gave their time to make a difference in the Antelope Valley!

I stopped by Thief & Barrel Winery in Lancaster to celebrate nine years of a local business bringing people together in the AV! From the chili cook-off to local vendors, it was great to see our community supporting small businesses and celebrating everything that makes our local community special. Congratulations to Barbara, DiMaggio, and the entire Thief & Barrel team on nine years!

I had a great time joining our AV community for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Palmdale, hosted by the Lancaster Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority! Together, we raised awareness and supported breast cancer research and patient services while honoring survivors, remembering loved ones, and standing with everyone affected by breast cancer.

Every student deserves to focus on their education, not where their next meal will come from. That’s why I was proud to join Dr. Ruys from the @Canyons to announce a $850,000 federal investment for the CoC’s Basic Needs Center to help expand their existing resource space so students can access food and get the support they need. Our local community colleges do incredible work that supports students across our community, and I’m glad to help them continue that work!

At a recent Coffee4Vets meeting, I had the honor of presenting 10 military medals and ribbons posthumously honoring decorated Army veteran Dennis Bartash to his daughter, Jennifer Bartash. I was also able to give her a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and a certificate in recognition of her father’s service. It was a beautiful ceremony and one I am grateful to have been a part of. Thanks as always to Juan Blanco and Coffee4Vets for making these events possible.

RT @RepKamlagerDove: Yesterday, I organized a congressional delegation tour of the LA County Ballot Processing Center. Here’s what we learned throughout our visit:

Great to partner with @AsmPilarSchiavo and the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center to connect local seniors with the resources and services they need. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, D-Chatsworth, Rep. George Whitesides, D-Acton, and the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center hosted the Senior Resource Fair on Friday.
