Berwick Bank Wind Farm has received development consent from @scotgov, clearing the final major approval to progress this game-changing renewable energy project. We spoke with Paul Cooley Director of Offshore Wind at SSE Renewables, who highlighted the immense scale and national and global significance of Berwick Bank: 🔹At 4.1GW, it would become the largest offshore wind farm in the world if fully delivered, capable of powering over six million homes annually 🔹 It would be expected to over £8billion in economic value to the UK and create around 9,300 UK jobs at peak construction, including 4,650 in Scotland 🔹 It could boost Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25%, accelerating the journey to net zero by 2045 Paul described it as: “A fantastic achievement not just for SSE, but for Scotland – and for our collective effort to tackle climate change.” Watch the video below to find out more.

RT @UKGovScotland: Commenting on the Berwick Bank wind farm consent decision announced this morning, Scottish Secretary @IanMurrayMP, said: “Since taking office I have prioritised delivering more clean energy jobs in Scotland. 1/4 @energygovuk | @scotgov

RT @Ed_Miliband: The approval of Berwick Bank offshore wind farm today is a major step towards our offshore wind targets and delivering clean power by 2030. Clean homegrown power is the route to energy security, good jobs and lower bills. That’s what we’re delivering.

🔔 Major boost for UK clean power mission and Scotland’s climate leadership Today, @scotgov has granted planning consent for SSE’s 4.1GW Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm - a pivotal boost for the UK’s Clean Power 2030 mission and Scotland’s net zero ambitions. 🌊 If fully delivered, Berwick Bank will: 🍃 Be the world’s largest offshore wind farm 🏡 Power 6 million+ homes annually 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Increase Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25% 📈 Play a central role in achieving the UK’s 50GW offshore wind target by 2030 This is the result of over a decade of meticulous development and planning. It’s also a strong signal of confidence in Scotland’s ability to lead the UK’s clean energy transition. Click the link below to find out more. 🔗 👇

How does hydro electricity power your home? Water flowing through turbines spins a generator, producing electricity. It travels through high voltage transmission lines, then through lower voltage local distribution networks until it arrives where it’s needed #Hydro #CleanEnergy

📣 Exciting news for Ireland's energy future! We're moving forward with Platin Power Station in County Meath after our final investment decision. This 170MW station will be crucial for a renewables-led energy system, offering backup during peak demand. ⚡

🔗 Find out more about Platin Power Station:

Renewable energy is paramount to achieving net zero - but it’s not always available. 🪫 To keep the UK powered, we need flexible backup like Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), delivering clean, secure, homegrown energy even when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine. ☀️🌬️

We've published our Q1 Trading Statement for 2025/26 📈 This statement reiterates the financial outlook as provided in SSE’s Full-year Results Statement on 21 May 2025, and provides operational performance data ahead of today’s Annual General Meeting.

⚡ Since 1982, Peterhead Power Station has powered Scotland with vital flexibility. Now, we’re planning its transformation into a carbon capture facility - cutting 90% of emissions & securing cleaner, reliable energy for a net zero future. #NetZero #CCS #EnergyTransition

We're sponsoring Reading Pride!🌈 We have a strong commitment to Inclusion and Diversity at SSE and we believe having a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential for success; it enables innovation, creativity, and collaboration. We invite our employees, their families, customers, and partners to join the celebrations and to show their support for inclusivity and diversity. We hope to see you there! 🌈

As we transition to a cleaner power system, we need flexible generation for when the wind doesn’t blow, and the sun doesn’t shine. ☀️ Flexible solutions like CCS can cut emissions by 90% vs traditional gas, supporting a cleaner and more secure UK energy system. 💚🔒
