RT @morekhyle: 僕は黒人アメリカ人として、この話題について自分の経験も踏まえて意見を述べられる立場にあると思います。 ここ数十年、映画や漫画、その他のメディアに「多様性が足りない」と訴える動きが続いてきました。僕自身、この動きには以前から批判的です。 なぜなら、創作者が望んでいないものを、他人が作品に取り入れるよう強制するべきではないと考えているからです。 僕は長年、日本のアニメや漫画、その他の日本の作品を楽しんできましたが、黒人のキャラクターが登場するかどうかを特に気にしたことはありません。 ただ、公平な視点で考えることも大切だと思います。 実際、日本の作品には、黒人や肌の色が濃いキャラクターよりも、ヨーロッパや西洋の文化に影響を受けた物語やキャラクターが数多く登場します。中国文化をモチーフにした作品もたくさんありますよね。 だから、黒人の読者や視聴者がそうした作品を見て、「黒人のキャラクターももっと登場してくれたら嬉しいな」と思うこと自体は、理解できます。 僕自身、日本のアニメや漫画に登場する黒人キャラクターの中にも、好きなキャラクターはたくさんいます。 その一方で、日本の作品には西洋やヨーロッパをモチーフにしたキャラクターが数多く存在するという事実を無視するのも、公平ではないと思います。 次に、黒人のクリエイター自身が作品を作るべきだという意見についてです。 少なくともアメリカでは、これまで多くの黒人クリエイターが、独自のスーパーヒーローやコミック作品を生み出し、世に広めようとしてきました。 しかし、それが簡単だったわけではありません。 アメリカのコミック業界には、ユダヤ系の創作者や出版社の創業者たちが歴史的に大きく貢献してきた背景があります。ただ、業界全体の構造や大手出版社への市場の集中によって、黒人を含む独立系クリエイターが自分たちの作品を広めることには、さまざまな障壁がありました。 この問題については、また別の深い議論が必要だと思います。 さらに、文化的な背景もあります。 僕が育ってきた黒人コミュニティでは、漫画やコミックを描いたり、そうした創作活動に取り組んだりすることが、必ずしも積極的に奨励されていたわけではありません。 特に以前は、多くの黒人の若者たちの間で、それが「かっこいいこと」として受け入れられているとは言い難い環境もありました。 もちろん、最近では状況も変わってきています。 だからこそ、僕は日本の作品に黒人キャラクターが登場することを嬉しく思う一方で、それを日本の創作者に要求したり、強制したりするのは間違っていると思います。 本当に自分たちが見たい作品があるのなら、自分たち自身で作る努力をするべきです。 実際、僕自身も今、オリジナル作品の制作に取り組んでいます。 そして、年齢を重ねるにつれて、自分自身のアイデンティティについても、以前より成熟した考え方ができるようになったと感じています。 僕はもう、誰かに自分を代表してもらわなければ、自分自身の価値を認められないという考え方を持っていません。 自分が何者なのかは、自分自身が分かっていればいいんです。 ですから、僕の結論はとてもシンプルです。 日本の作品に黒人キャラクターが登場するなら、それは嬉しいことです。登場しなくても、僕はまったく構いません。 最終的に何を描くかを決めるのは、その作品を生み出す創作者自身であるべきだと思っています。

日本人が作った日本が舞台の創作物に「なぜ黒人が出てないんだ! 」と騒ぐのであれば、ぜひ黒人ご自身でアフリカなりアメリカなりが舞台の創作物を世に出してほしい。 安心して下さい。我々は「なぜ日本人が出てないんだ!」と騒いだりしないので。
