Lindsey Leitch is visually impaired and struggles to read route numbers until the bus is right in front of her, sometimes too late to flag it down. Like many blind and partially sighted people, she often has to rely on strangers to tell her which bus is coming. She’s asking for audio announcements at bus stops across Scotland, beginning with a pilot at busy stops, developed with councils, bus operators and sight loss organisations. As she puts it, this is about equal access to something as basic as public transport. You can sign her petition here:001119
More than 43,000 people have signed a petition on calling on the BBC to save DIY SOS. Among them are volunteers, an occupational therapist and people whose lives were changed by a build. They say the show gives families dignity and a quality of life they could not have found otherwise. Their petition, started by Barnsley plasterer David Claydon, is calling for the BBC to prevent the cancellation of the show. For 75 years, The Archers has been made in Birmingham. Now that could change. The BBC has dropped its plan for a new £1.5m studio for the show in Digbeth, as part of its drive to cut costs. It’s now looking at existing BBC studios across the UK, as well as other options in the West Midlands, which means Ambridge could be recorded outside Birmingham for the first time since 1951. More than 100 current and former cast members, including Dame Judi Dench and Adjoa Andoh, have written to the BBC’s director-general, warning a move would be “a great betrayal of the people of Birmingham.” Cast member Susie Riddell has argued that travel costs from a move could outweigh the cost of the new studio within a few years. Claire Henderson’s petition is asking the BBC to reconsider and keep the show where it belongs. You can sign here:011382
Becky Millar’s dad was riding his motorbike when a 90-year-old driver pulled out in front of him. He died. Now Becky has started a petition calling for drivers aged 80 and over to take a simple yearly assessment: eyesight, reaction times and the basic safety manoeuvres. She says it isn’t about taking away older people’s licences, freedom or independence. It’s about making sure everyone on the road is safe to be there. Right now, UK drivers over 70 renew their licence every three years by filling in a self-declaration. The government has already consulted on bringing in compulsory eye tests for older drivers. The Covid Inquiry found Matt Hancock’s “protective ring” claim about care homes was unfounded. Bereaved families @CovidJusticeUK are now calling for him to lose his Privy Council seat and “Right Honourable” title. Hancock has previously defended his handling of an “impossible” situation. Tomorrow is @andyburnham's 100th day as Prime Minister. The Chinook families asked him to meet them before it ended. On 2nd June 1994, RAF Chinook ZD576 crashed on the Mull of Kintyre, killing all 29 people on board. More than three decades later, their families say they still don’t have answers. Before he became Prime Minister, Andy Burnham backed their campaign in the House of Commons. The families then asked him to meet them within his first 100 days, and to order a review of the crash that’s independent of the MoD. In this video, they speak directly to him. The @chinookjustice campaign group is calling for an independent inquiry and for all documents about the crash to be released. Over 52,000 people have signed their petition. 🔗 Petition:013161.1K
This Halloween will be the first without Tim Curry. From Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Pennywise in It, he gave the world characters people still dress up as every October. Across more than five decades he also lit up Clue, Annie and Muppet Treasure Island. But he never received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fan Kim Griffin has started a petition asking the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to change that. You can add your name here:002370
One week to go until Halloween, and the skeletons are already waiting at the supermarket door. For most of us that’s part of the fun. But Maria, a mum of a young child, says those entrance displays are giving little ones nightmares. She’s started a petition asking supermarkets for a simple fix: keep the scary stuff in a dedicated Halloween aisle, so kids can come along for the weekly shop without being frightened. Agree? Leah Croucher’s parents have a message for the 103,573 people backing Leah’s Law In February 2019, 19-year-old Leah left her home in Milton Keynes to walk to work. She never arrived. More than three years later, her remains were found in the loft of a house nearby. An inquest found she was unlawfully killed by Neil Maxwell, a convicted sex offender. Now her mum and dad, Claire and John, are calling for Leah’s Law - mandatory sentencing for repeat sexual offenders. More than 100,000 people have already signed in less than a month. “The dog did not put Maggie in the bin. A human being did.” After Maggie was mauled to death by a dog in Wollaston, Northamptonshire, her family only found her body because of her tracker. Petition starter Drew Carter wants dog attacks on cats made a specific offence, and a legal duty to report a cat’s death, not hide it. You can sign here:048556
Around 15,000 people have signed the petition to keep DIY SOS on air, in less than a week. The BBC says it will “rest” the show in 2027 because of its savings challenges, and make a cheaper spin-off instead. Presenter Nick Knowles has said he’s “disappointed” not to be filming it next year. The petition was started by David Claydon, a plasterer who worked on a DIY SOS build. He says the show does something special: it “stands as a reminder to all of us of the potential we have to make a difference in our communities”.055693

“It’s the people who are the beating heart of SOS.” That’s how Nick Knowles described it this week, after the BBC confirmed DIY SOS will be “rested” in 2027 to save money. For 27 years, thousands of tradespeople, suppliers and volunteers have turned up for families facing illness, bereavement and disability. David Claydon, a plasterer who worked on a build last year, has started a petition asking the BBC to keep the show on air. You can add your name here:420311.6K
Before heading to Downing Street today to hand in her 300,000-signature petition, Susan Liverman went on BBC Politics Live to explain why families like hers shouldn’t be punished when their children can’t go to school. Susan’s son tried hard to go to school, but undiagnosed autism and sensory differences made the classroom overwhelming. While she fought for support, she lived with the threat of fines. Thousands of parents are in the same position. Her message is simple: fines and prosecution don’t get children back into education. Proper support and alternatives to mainstream school do. Big Brother viewers are worried about what they’re seeing in the house. In Monday’s episode, Rhianna told Omar she didn’t like the way he spoke to her and tried to call things off. Fellow housemates have described the relationship as toxic, and fans have spent the past week flagging moments they see as controlling, including Omar telling her “your feelings aren’t facts”. Cody Fisher’s petition asks ITV to step in, remove Omar from the house, and review how it supports housemates. You can add your name here: #BBUK #BigBrother07132K

Over 76,000 fans are refusing to accept that. They’ve signed the petition asking ITV to bring Sir Tom back in his original role. You can join them here:228630
