💤 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼? 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻? 💤 Sometimes we forget: the green transition involves electrifying sectors that use fossil-fuels (by definition) Maybe if electrical energy was abundant and cheap, not 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱, we would move quicker. At current pace, its not even happening in your lifetime. Based on a *current* trajectory, full electrification of the All-Island Heat and Transport sectors would not be completed until the year 2133 • Target All-Island H&T Demand: 40.0 TWh electrical • Current H&T Demand Achieved (to 2026): ~2.5 TWh • Remaining Gap to Electrify: 37.5 TWh • Actual Linear Growth Rate: 0.35 TWh / yr 🚘 >100,000 EVs registered / yr 🚿 >40,000 heat pumps installed /yr • Time to Completion: 37.5 divided by 0.35 = 𝟭𝟬𝟳 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀

RT @xiaowang1984: This is the part of the energy transition that breaks people's brains in my opinion. They falsely have the idea that gas is some immutable per unit fixed cost that is inherently expensive while completely neglecting that it has its own fixed cost infrastructure whose unit price goes down if volumes are increased and vice versa So it's increasingly easy to blame "expensive" gas while neglecting that the very policies that discourage its use are what makes it expensive and force amortization over lower volumes and lack of fixed favorable supply pricing because "we're getting rid of it anyways" Also the cursed logic that supports letting the infra like storage degrade

RT @KathrynPorter26: So there we have it. Probably the highest day ever in the BM at over £52 million The final number tends to be a bit higher than the trading figure reported by LCP This is what Connect & Manage has done... We spent £52 million because we had to throw away wind in Scotland that we built despite knowing we can't use it Plus NESO not curtailing it before the DA auction meaning instead of gas plant self dispatching it has to be bid on in the BM @Miatsf @mgshanks @AndrewBowie_MP @ClaireCoutinho @harrietc @ColinMoynihanUK @drlukeevans @ashley7fox @TiceRichard @cmackinlay @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @Iromg @AllisonPearson @MerrynSW @EdConwaySky @afneil @mattotele @jonathan_leake @julietsamuel @energygovuk

RT @KathrynPorter26: @BusyFooFighting Probably because we're spending massive amounts to balance the grid... £28. 2 million for today already and counting THIS is the cost of net zero. Nobody is rinsing anyone. It's just very hard and very expensive to manage intermittency
