It’s #Intel‘s first 8bit #microprocessor! This week, I finally worked on the kind donation of the awesome #computermuseum called ENTER Technikwelt in Solothurn, Switzerland. The request was to make die shots of the famous INTEL i8008 from 1972 made in 10 micron PMOS… (1/n)

Usually we don't realize that having a #microprocessor running #Linux, with a direct interface to an #FPGA is probably the most important achievement in decades for #embedded systems. From my point of view.

1975: “a lot of people want personal computers, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have microprocessors, we’re going to be able to run them in our homes, and so we’re not going to need all the stuff in the mainframe. but from a global allocation perspective, actually it’s quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of memory chips sitting on their own desk and being used five percent of the time. you want maximum utilisation on the time-sharing terminal. somehow many people’s intuition is the opposite of that”

sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

DHRUV64: India’s First 1.0 GHz, 64-bit dual-core #Microprocessor 💠 India has achieved a significant milestone in its semiconductor journey with the launch of DHRUV64. It is a fully indigenous microprocessor developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the Microprocessor Development Programme (MDP) 💠 DHRUV64 provides the nation a reliable, homegrown processor technology. It is capable of supporting strategic and commercial applications. It marks a major advancement in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in advanced chip design 💠 India consumes around 20% of all the microprocessors manufactured globally. The development of DHRUV64 provides India’s large talent base with a fully modern processor platform for advancement of #semiconductor ecosystem in India Read here: (1/2)
