It's not GNOME, it's not KDE, it's not the new Vanilla OS DE, it's new, uses <100M of memory, is accessible (for real) and uses GTK4 (but not libadwaita). In case the video got ultra-compressed by X, see it in my Mastodon./social account. #Linux #Windows #OpenSource #FOSS2091803.3K280K

Linux started in 1991 as a hobby project. Today it runs on 4 billion Android devices, all 500 of the world’s top supercomputers, and powers much of our daily lives. The LF Research report on 35 years of Linux looks at how the kernel got there, including the review-driven collaboration behind it and the creation of Git. Read the full report:423965.5K
⚠️ Critical Unpatched Linux Kernel Flaws Accidentally Disclosed on Public List Details: Several unpatched Linux-related security flaws were posted to public mailing lists in October, exposing technical details before fixes were ready. The reports, submitted by Trend Micro’s Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), include two critical flaws rated CVSS 9.0 that could let a remote attacker run code on systems using the Linux kernel’s KSMBD file server. Other reports describe local privilege-escalation and information-disclosure risks. The reports appeared on public lists, and Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman questioned why some submissions were sent there without patches. #cybersecuritynews1527999759.8K
🌻 Cindy Sue Causey 🌻@StudebakerSometime circa ~2:00am, I #Git cloned @LibreOffice, ./autogen.sh'ed, y let 'er rip with `make`. Lo es ~9:30 that same morning... it's still chug-chug-churning along (~vbahelper/*). Old copy suddenly borked yesterday. Was LONG overdue for a new compile, anyway.👍 #Linux #GeekGirl00080

Linus Torvalds used Claude again to remove years-old, slow and insecure Linux kernel code. The cleanup is now merged into Linux 7.4 and spans 48 commits. It targets __get_user() and __put_user(), old memory-access helpers that skip user-address checks. Linus says their historical performance advantage disappeared years ago. He wrote the initial example patch, then used Claude to help apply the same changes elsewhere. The old calls are gone from generic kernel code, with the interfaces fully removed on x86. Other architectures still retain some uses. As Linus put it, “we should have done this years ago.” Source:682084.4K311K
