Utah keeps electing Republicans, but the problems they want solved keep getting worse. They pay exorbitant taxes — among the highest in any “red state” — for neighborhoods where it’s impossible to raise a family, schools that psychologically abuse children, a justice system that plays catch-and-release with violent criminals, libraries full of leftist trash, parks that are unsafe for their children to play in. And when they appeal to their Republican leaders for relief, they’re told that doing anything to stem the tide of dysfunction would be contrary to the Constitution and “Utah Values”. That’s why we started Constitutional Action, to recruit leaders who will treat the Constitution as a mandate for action, rather than an excuse for inaction. Ben Wilson and I believe that Utahns are ready for something better. — but as long as the median Utah voter gets their news from KSL, the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret News, and the Daily Herald, we will never reach them. So now we’ve created Constitutional Action News. We want Utahns to know what is really going on in their state, and to catch the vision that they do not have to live like this. There is nothing inevitable about Utah falling into the same dysfunction as California, Minnesota, or Colorado: it is a decision being made over and over again, every day, by weak and cowardly political leaders wearing GOP lapel pins. This weekly show will focus on Utah issues as we build momentum here — but these stories will be relevant no matter where you live, because what is happening in Utah is happening everywhere. We are facing a national crisis, and it will require a national movement. In this first episode, we explain how the project began, our plans to field candidates in Utah, and why outrage has become such a dependable business model for the conservative movement.

An LDS woman once told me she'd be fine with her husband raping a woman to death, if it meant "freeing her [the wife] from her oppressors." That was when I knew her Jew-hatred had really crossed a line and we could no longer be mutuals. Many of you would probably be surprised who said it.

BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him. Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible. The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.” Per NYT: “The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.”

RT @realJeremyCarl: Hey, 60 Minutes, now that the entire premise of your fake refugee story has been exposed as a scam, will you be retracting it? Maybe you shouldn't have used a "prison and border abolitionist" and socialist as a primary source. @bariweiss your credibility is on the line.

“They sent him to Ghana, with full knowledge that Ghana is systematically deporting refugees back to the very countries they fled,” says immigration attorney Meredyth Yoon. 60 Minutes obtained the names of all the people on a flight that left Texas on July 30th and took deportees to three countries in Africa, including Ghana. Of the 19 deportees 60 Minutes reached who were sent to Ghana, 17 say they were then transported against their will to countries U.S. immigration judges ruled they should not be returned to. Moussa Diawara was one of them. The Department of Homeland Security told 60 Minutes that Ghana had provided the U.S. with “diplomatic assurances for [Diawara’s] safety.” Yoon says the U.S. government was warned about Ghana’s conduct in a lawsuit last year. Despite this, the U.S. sent 10 more flights to Ghana, which Yoon believes is a violation of international law.

I skipped school to wait in line to buy tickets for the opening day midnight showing of _Phantom Menace_, there was a ton of hype (we also saw the 7 PM show later that same day, after the midnight open). My friends & I enjoyed the movie, especially the spectacular lightsaber duels, although we were a bit confused by the plot on the first viewing & reminded of how cheesy Lucas' dialogue is (the script in the original trilogy is even worse but it feels familiar). We also hated Jar-Jar Binks—everyone did. Kids were starting petitions online to have him die in the next movie. The midi-chlorians were super controversial as well because lots of people thought they 'demystified' the Force (I liked them because I thought they 're-mystified' the Jedi & Sith, revealing their teachings to be merely contingent, religious interpretations of naturalistic phenomena). But the biggest difference between the millennial experience of seeing _Phantom Menace_ in theaters & zoomers watching today is *context*. PM came out at the end / peak of a great period for Hollywood. Other very solid / good Hollywood movies that came out in 1999 that still hold up: Eyes Wide Shut Fight Club The Sixth Sense Magnolia Being John Malkovich Man on the Moon The Talented Mr. Ripley The Matrix Blair Witch Project October Sky The Mummy 8mm Cruel Intentions Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels 10 Things I Hate About You Tarzan American Beauty Three Kings That year was absolutely stacked with movies better than almost anything being released today. There was a specific combination of relatively high budget, emerging SFX technology, auteurism, & willingness to experiment (thank you Miramax) that was really quite special, & it's probably difficult for young people today to grasp how high the prevailing level of quality really was.

The common factor in Gen Z's "unironic" enjoyment of both these movies is implied in that word itself They're very accustomed as viewers to a more active role in the artistic process, spinning new meaning from media often literally "in spite of" the creator's skill or intent

I've glorified poverty and dilapidation largely because I've always assumed I'd be poor forever regardless of what I did. I figured I might as well learn to get enthusiastic about poverty, dysfunction, and obscurity if it was inevitable. Now that I've escaped it, I ask myself: "What the hell do I do now?" What do I actually want? After years of training myself to "want" a poor life on the distant (rural) margins, now that I no longer have to do that I have no idea what it is that I actually want. Always, I've let my blackpilled perspective on my own station interrupt my ability to want anything. If it wasn't ultra-cheap, I simply forced myself to not want it, period. Now? I could realistically make it work almost anywhere with careful planning. Could get into all sorts of businesses, try anything, make any number of interesting or edifying gambles or ventures... this is solely because of careful, anxiety-inducing levels of fiscal caution and extreme frugality. If you've ever wondered why it is that I seem "all over the place," it's this exact thing. It's this combined with becoming a father and realizing that the dilapidation and poverty I've forced myself to "want" isn't actually what I want to give my kids.
