Dear Florida: Did you know the daughter of a former U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leader is operating on your soil and collecting school voucher dollars for her Islamic schools? Magda Elkadi Saleh sits at the center of Tampa’s Islamic school network. She has founded and led institutions including the American Youth Academy (the rebranded continuation of the Islamic Academy of Florida), Universal Academy of Florida, and Bayaan Academy. These schools now participate in Florida’s school-choice voucher programs - routing public education dollars into the first stage of a parallel Islamic infrastructure. Her father, Ahmed Elkadi, was the national leader (Mas’ul) of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood from 1984 to 1994. I’ve never written anything that resonated with so many people as Bob’s story. Reading through the responses, I see countless Americans who feel forgotten, betrayed, and abandoned. If you’re one of them, I want you to remember something: God has not abandoned you. God never promised us a life free from suffering. He promised to walk beside us through it. He promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us, and that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. And He fulfilled His greatest promise when Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins, rose again on the third day, and opened the gates of eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him. Governments will fail you. Politicians will betray you. The world will turn its back on you. But Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Take heart. Today’s Guardian finds it "astonishing" that Russell Brand, convicted of one count of rape and three sexual assaults yesterday, was “embraced as a serious social commentator” when he returned to Britain in 2013. Embraced by whom, sorry? The paper gives its own role in promoting brand Brand one single line, noting he had already written columns for it. Yesterday’s big Guardian piece on TV insiders said "Brand’s case has led to difficult questions for the BBC, Channel 4 and the production companies that worked with him." Hilarious... On an unrelated note Russell Brand's 137 written contributions to the Guardian are still online - 17 of which are after 2013 and which concluded in February 2015. Long after the Andrew Sachs voicemails, the paper ran his opinion on Thatcher the day after she died, ran a GQ awards column over a large chunk of the front page in September 2013, and ran his column blaming Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death on “extremely stupid drug laws.” Not to mention the fawning praise from Owen Jones and the entire Labour establishment, including the now-Prime Minister... Today’s piece also sniffs that critics lavished praise on his memoir, quoting its tale of Brand trailing a classmate 200 miles to Wigan as an early warning sign. That particular book was serialised in the Guardian. In October 2014 the paper put on a ticketed Guardian Live event, with Owen Jones interviewing Brand. It was broadcast live from the Emmanuel Centre. That day Jones penned a piece in the Guardian attacking the “all-too-smug, seen-it-all-before snottiness” aimed at Brand. Two months later George Monbiot named him a hero of 2014, calling him “the best thing that has happened to the left in years”. Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian's editor from 1995 to 2015, claimed in Prospect Magazine in 2023: "I only met him once, when he was writing a popular football column for the Guardian, along with the occasional commentary piece." Funny, seeing as the football column was pre-2010 and there is a photo of them snugly on the sofa together at the Guardian’s morning conference in August 2013...

Give us an undivided heart that trusts Your goodness in every season. When trials come, teach us to count them as joy because You are producing steadfastness in us. Let endurance finish its work. When we lack wisdom, help us ask You in faith. When temptation comes, keep us from blaming You. Expose the desires that draw us away, and strengthen us to obey. Make us quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Help us receive Your Word with humility and become doers of it. Keep us from hearing truth while refusing to let it change us. Deliver us from favoritism. Teach us to honor the poor, welcome the overlooked, care for orphans and widows, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Let our faith bear fruit through mercy, generosity, and obedience. May we never offer empty words where You have given us the means to help. Father, tame our tongues. Forgive us for blessing You while wounding people made in Your likeness. Put a guard over our mouths, and let our words bring truth, healing, and peace. Remind us of Your compassion and mercy when we cannot understand what You are doing. When we suffer, turn us toward prayer. When we rejoice, fill our mouths with praise. When we are sick, help us seek prayer from the elders and trust Your care. Give us humility to confess our sins and faithfulness to pray for one another. And when someone wanders from the truth, give us the love to pursue them and the gentleness to help bring them home. Father, let the faith we profess become visible in the lives we live.
