RT @la_dorkout: Hotel Arcadia was a luxury resort in Santa Monica from 1886 to 1909. Besides being the site where a drunken Col. Griffith (of Griffith Park fame) shot his wife, it sported a roller coaster that whisked guests right to the beach. 117 years later, that's still an awesome hook.

The Formosa Cafe and I share a long history, measured mostly in empty glasses and late-night toasts.

John Wayne once fell asleep in a red booth at the Formosa Cafe, then walked into the kitchen the next morning and made his own scrambled eggs. I love stories like this. They remind me that old Hollywood wasn't just glamour, it was also wonderfully human. Today a star would need three bodyguards just to order coffee.

RT @ArtWong128: One more mural I saw in Hermosa yesterday. This one honors early punk rock pioneers! It's painted on the big parking structure just north of Pier Plaza. "We've got nothin' better to do, than watch TV and have a couple of brews ..." 🎶🎙️

When "Bankrobber" hit the charts in 1980, The Clash refused to appear on Top of the Pops to lip-sync. The show’s solution? Having resident dance group Legs & Co. perform a full choreographed dance routine to the dub-reggae punk anthem instead. 🎸💃

Horace Andy "Straight to Hell" The Clash originally built "Straight to Hell" around a Latin-bossa-nova and reggae-influenced drum groove by Topper Headon. In 2017, Horace Andy brought the track full circle, transforming the 1982 classic into a heavy reggae groove.

RT @la_dorkout: In the 1920s, subdividers ran this bizarro ad publicizing the agrarian Valley that looked like someone singed their palm on a waffle iron. (For the unitiated, Owensmouth became Canoga Park, North LA became Northridge, and First Nat'l Studio became Warner Bros.)
