I’m pleased to share that I have been awarded my PhD. My research focused on developing implantable oxygen sensors for monitoring of tissue oxygenation, aimed at improving early detection of ischemia in organ transplant and surgery. Excited to continue advancing this work.

RT @NYCMayor: Eid Mubarak! Today as we honor Prophet Ibrahim, Eid al-Adha reminds us that sacrifice is not a burden. It is an opportunity to see ourselves as part of something larger. To extend a hand to those who need it most. I am honored to be New York City's first Muslim Mayor and I am determined to lead through solidarity. Together, we are working to ensure every New Yorker can afford the groceries, housing, and child care they need. Our solidarity is our strength. Eid Saeed, New York.

The kidney consumes enormous amounts of oxygen for an organ we rarely monitor in real time. By the time creatinine rises, ischemic stress may have already been present for hours. Nephrology needs better physiologic monitoring, not just delayed biomarkers.

Ischemia is a dynamic biological process, not a binary event. Cellular hypoxia, metabolic failure, and tissue injury begin long before clinical signs become apparent. The future of transplantation and surgery will depend on continuous, real-time physiologic monitoring.

Ischemia in organ transplant and flaps is often detected after damage has already begun. The future of medicine is real-time tissue and organ monitoring — detecting injury before it becomes irreversible.

Nephrology changes your psychology. You learn to live between hope and decline, statistics and suffering, life and dialysis. You carry losses quietly, celebrate small victories loudly, and still show up the next morning.

Nephrology faces some of medicine’s biggest unmet needs: • Kidney injury detected too late • High dialysis mortality • Organ shortages • Limited realtime monitoring • Innovation lags behind disease burden It affects millions. Research urgency should reflect that.
