Press release:

RT @vonderleyen: The martyrs of 1956 gave their lives for freedom. Their memory reminds us that the triumph of democracy is not inevitable. Every generation must fight to renew our freedoms and reenergise our democracy ↓

RT @vonderleyen: Deeply alarmed by yet another Russian escalation in the Black Sea. A civilian vessel carrying Ukrainian and Azerbaijani crew has been struck off the coast of Romania. These reckless attacks target innocent lives and openly defy international law. My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the sailor that was killed. And with the families of the three crew members still missing. My gratitude goes to the rescue teams working tirelessly to find them.

When disaster strikes, the EU is there to help. For 25 years, the #EUCivilProtectionMechanism has brought together first responders, experts, and aid from across Europe to protect lives when every second counted. A quarter-century of protection, preparedness, and solidarity.

RT @vonderleyen: I welcome the Sakharov Prize awarded to the International Criminal Court. For victims of the world's gravest crimes, justice means a voice. The @IntlCrimCourt must be free to pursue its mission, independently, and without pressure or intimidation. Europe stands firmly behind President Tomoko Akane, the Court's judges and officials, and their vital work for a world governed by rules.

RT @vonderleyen: Important conversation on AI with @BillGates and digital CEOs. We have to strike the right balance. Between the huge potential AI holds for our industry, healthcare, innovation and so much more. And its regulation, ensuring trustworthiness and our cyber security. This is why Europe has the AI Act - for innovation under human control. And we will continue our global engagement on better coordination and common standards. To manage the rapid development of AI in the interest of humanity.

RT @vonderleyen: Competitiveness starts at home. And we’re doing our homework. Simplifying rules, across the board. Making affordable and clean energy flow with an upcoming Energy Union roadmap. And lifting the remaining barriers to our market, our best asset ↓
