RT @DianaforQueens: ABOLISH ICE. END NYPD VIOLENCE.
17 New York State Socialists in Office and Democratic nominees respond to Thursday’s shooting of Oscar Belgal and call to abolish ICE, end NYPD assistance of ICE, and disband NYPD’s SRG.
3 years ago, I passed NY's landmark law, the LLC Transparency Act, to protect tenants and other people harmed by bad actors hiding behinds shell LLCs.
The bill was effectively gutted when the Gov vetoed a key amendment last year. But I'm not giving up....
Yesterday I had the privilege of visiting Seneca Meadows, the largest NY landfill. The community told me about its impact on their lives, their children’s health, their ability to hire workers.
The landfill is harming their ability to protect themselves & live with dignity.🧵
2/ This isn’t just a Western NY problem. 20-30% of the trash in the landfill is trucked up from NYC, polluting communities across the state. Toxic leachate is seeping into our waterways.
A landfill-backed PAC is spending hundreds of thousands to elect pro-landfill candidates.
3/ Seneca Meadows is asking DEC for a permit to expand, and there’s going to be an open comment period.
Stay tuned for more info. If you care about protecting our environment, empowering families to control their own destinies, & protecting the local economy, you should comment.
NY has a trash problem. Our landfills are running out of space, they’re leeching toxic chemicals, and they’re emitting a huge amount of GHG.
We must pass serious waste reduction and diversion policies this session to change this toxic trajectory.
I’m heading up to visit the Seneca Meadows landfill today. It’s the largest source of methane emissions in all of NY, and about 20% of the trash is trucked up from NYC.
Keep an eye out for more about what I learn!
All NYC families should have the ability to bike to school safely.
Such a joy to accompany these community advocates and junior advocates as we make that vision a reality!
Tax the rich. Tax the corporations. Ensure all people can live with dignity because they know they will have the essentials — healthcare, housing, education — whether their job is replaced by AI or not.
There is no other option.

Wages are at all-time lows, and profits at historic highs, as a percent of GDP.
The backlash against A.I. is a backlash against unchecked inequality.

Less than 1/3 of our district leaders voted in this "election." It also violated a clear court order.
The establishment is trading voter trust for power less than a month ahead of a high-stakes election.
Voters elected reformers for a reason. We must respect their wishes.

Yesterday, former Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, violating a court order, called a meeting to hold a vote for party chair. Now she claims Nikki Lucas was elected chair, with votes from only 13 of the 42 District Leaders. This is illegal and undemocratic.

It's painful to watch the way Republicans have dragged @AngieNixon's name through the mud, but I know it's because they are afraid of her strength, integrity, and resonance with voters.
You're inspiring people in FL and all over the country, Angie. Keep going!!!

As Republicans demonize @AngieNixon, and JD Vance tells her "you don't belong in America," they run the risk of having it backfire. Nixon can be a compelling figure. Here she is getting emotional when I asked her to tell voters something personal about herself. @CBSMiami

RT @SalazarSenate: Disgusting use of our state and local resources. The cops knew exactly what they were doing: helping CBP kidnap immigrant New Yorkers.
If this somehow doesn't violate Dignity Not Detention (which it seems to), then it's another reason we need to pass New York for All.

Greenpoint has some of the lowest park space per person in NYC.
Parks are what make a neighborhood livable. They're where we gather with friends, host birthday parties, escape the heat on particularly scorching days.
I'm thrilled that Box St Park will break ground soon.

Mayor Mamdani announces he’s moving forward with Box St Park in Greenpoint, a project first announced 21 yrs ago.
“That was 2005. When that promise was made, movies came out on VHS.”
He says there will be skyline views, a bball court, dog run and plants like seaside goldenrod.

Breaking news: Gov Newsom just signed CA's plug-in solar bill.
There are now 10 states around the country where residents can buy plug-in solar to lower bills and emissions, including right across the river in NJ.
NY will be next if/when Gov Hochul signs the bill.🧐

Want solar but don't own a roof? California just legalized plug-in panels, no permission required
