RT @liu8in: day 2/100 of turning @HyperFrames_ into a real business: i studied the best oss business models: vercel, databricks, confluent, etc. sharing my notes on @vercel - an incredible product and a great business built on top of its @nextjs 's massive popularity the story is fascinating because the business actually came first. 10 years ago TODAY, a small startup called ZEIT open-sourced Next.js. but it was AFTER ZEIT launched Now, a product that made deploying websites as easy as running one command. Later that year, they released Next.js under the MIT license, completely free for anyone to use. (whoever made this call, is a true genius) Instead of monetizing the framework, they focused on making it ridiculously easy to take something built with Next.js and deploy it to production. And it worked. Next.js became one of the most popular web frameworks. Developers learned it, contributed to it, and built an entire ecosystem around it. Meanwhile, Vercel (renamed from ZEIT) became the natural next step. Push code, get a live URL, share a preview, collaborate with your team, and scale to production. Open source drove adoption. The commercial platform captured the value of production. Here's the crazy part: Vercel grew 50% yoy in 2026 because coding agents defaults to build modern web apps using Next.js In 2026, Vercel surpassed $500M in annualized revenue run rate, after reaching a $9.3B valuation in 2025. Little do people know, Vercel has reported that roughly 70% of Next.js applications run outside its platform. Yet, they didn't need to own EVERY Next.js deployment to build a massive business. To me, the biggest lesson isn't that open source is a great distribution strategy. It's that the best open-source businesses don't have to restrict what developers can do for free. They create something so valuable around the open-source ecosystem that people naturally want to pay for it. Free to build. Worth paying to ship. Incredible execution of technology, product and business by @rauchg and the @vercel team. mad respect. And happy 10th birthday, @nextjs 🎂🎉

RT @joshua_xu_: I've been thinking about something as more and more AI agents start generating videos. A lot of people are asking: if agents can create hundreds of videos, how are we supposed to review all of them? I actually think that's the wrong way to look at it. Today, most agents communicate with us through text. They do research, analyze information, and give us a long report to read. But why does everything have to come back as text? I think it depends on what the agent is trying to do. If an agent needs me to make a decision, confirm something, or give feedback, text is probably the best format. It's quick, precise, and easy to interact with. But if an agent is trying to explain something to me, that's a different story. For example, recently I wanted to understand how JEV works, what it does, and the different use cases. Instead of spending an hour going through documents and links, I just asked my agent to research it and explain everything back to me in a video. And I loved that experience. I could just watch and listen. The combination of visuals, audio, and explanation made it much easier for me to build an understanding of the topic. It got me thinking that we've been looking at agent-generated video mostly as a content creation problem. But I think there's a much bigger opportunity here. Video could become one of the most natural ways for agents to communicate with humans. Not every interaction needs to be a video. Text is still great for back-and-forth communication. But when an agent has done the work and wants to present what it learned, why shouldn't it just explain it to me through video? I think we're going to see a lot more of this. And personally, I'm pretty excited about that future.
