Amita Sachdeva, Advocate @SachdevaAmitaA New Jurisprudential Step Towards Protecting the Dignity of Hindu Deities: The Right of Devotees to Seek Damages for the Defamation of Their Deities We have filed a Suit for Declaration, Injunction and Damages on account of defamation against Dhruv Rathee, as devotees of Bhagwan Shri Ram and Mata Sita, for making defamatory and derogatory statements about our Deities. The Suit has been filed pursuant to the liberty granted by the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi to institute an appropriate proceeding seeking appropriate relief against Dhruv Rathee. Through this Suit, we have raised a new jurisprudential question: If a Hindu Deity can sue and be sued, and can even hold property, a devotee of a Hindu Deity should also be entitled to seek damages for defamation arising from defamatory and derogatory statements made against the Deity. @AdkarMakarand
