🚨 Exclusive: The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee. FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel.

Newcastle United have appointed Tomas Amaral as head of recruitment. The Portuguese was most recently sporting director at Spartak Moscow. He also worked for Benfica.⚫️ 🗣️ Amaral: "It is with great pride and a strong sense of responsibility that I join Newcastle United, a historic club with passionate supporters who have high expectations and ambitions. "From my very first conversations with Ross Wilson, I immediately understood the vision and the direction the club wants to take over the coming years. "I strongly share the ideas and ambitions of the people at the club, and I am determined to play my part in contributing to Newcastle United’s success. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started at a club with such high standards."

Chelsea increasingly confident of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January. Scott is Chelsea’s top target after Enzo Fernandez’s left for Manchester City on deadline day over the summer. Bournemouth want £100m+ and Xabi Alonso’s side are already in fresh talks having made multiple bids over the summer. Liverpool also hold an interest in Scott, but have less urgency to add a midfielder in January. Monaco's Lamine Camara, who Chelsea failed to sign on deadline day, and Roma's Manu Kone are two other targets.🍒 🤝 @alex_crook

I ran out of superlatives to describe your performances a long time ago, but I’m delighted to see that you have now been formally recognised by the football world. As a Leicester fan, I'll always remember that famous (and painful) @T_Deeney playoff semi-final winner for Watford in 2013. Harry Kane was on the bench for #LCFC in that game. As an aside, so was Jamie Vardy! 13 years on, and Kane is the Ballon d'Or winner. He thanked Spurs... but I like to think Leicester and Nigel Pearson played also played a small part! 😉🦊 Kane a superb footballer and person. Talented, hard-working, humble and inspiring. A deserving winner.🏆

I am glad to be bringing this trophy back to Bayern. "To all my England teammates, we had a special year. It wasn't the perfect year, but we had a lot of good moments.
