For the 34th time, the UN General Assembly passes a resolution calling for an end to the U.S. embargo on Cuba. Ukraine vote against. United States against. Lithuanian against. Israel against. Hungary too. Good to see 🇨🇦 vote for the end of this blatant violation of int'l law.

RT @MarkKersten: Lana Nusseibeh calls Sudan a "humanitarian crisis". Beware of anyone who claims the problem in Sudan is "humanitarian" as a way to minimize the fact that it is a man-made, atrocity-fuelled crisis caused in part by the very actors the UAE backs: the RSF & its genocidal violence.

I spoke with @Bloomberg about my candidacy for UN Secretary-General and my belief that the office must be an active force for diplomacy and peace: • “The Secretary-General has to be an actor rather than a spectator to the world’s crises.” That means keeping dialogue open, taking risks for peace and responding to crises with greater urgency. I also stressed that the Secretary-General and the Organization must be less risk-averse and willing to take political risks to achieve peace. • I reaffirmed my commitment to independence: “I would govern with only a commitment to the UN and its Charter.” • Asked about Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s tweet, I made clear that “I commit to engaging with Iran, like all Member States, to advance peace and stability.” • Asked about Sudan, I stressed the scale of the crisis: “Sudan is the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.” I underscored the famine conditions and the immense strain on neighbouring countries hosting refugees. I also reaffirmed my commitment: “I would put the UN’s full political and practical support behind ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and a credible and inclusive political process that reflects the democratic aspirations of the Sudanese people.”

A classic non-answer dodge. Not good enough. Nusseibeh worked for the UAE *while* it was complicit in the RSF's atrocities in Sudan. #KeepEyesonSudan

At Nusseibeh's town hall @yonahdiamond asks a *very* pointed question about the UAE's complicity in Sudan She answers that she no longer works for the UAE gov, so those questions should be directed there. She stresses that ending the Sudan war would be a top priority.

The world cannot ignore what is happening in Sudan. One year on from the mass atrocities in El Fasher, the UK is sanctioning those linked to these and other atrocities, and strengthening support for survivors and communities at risk of famine.

Perhaps exactly why the Trump administration would support it... to undermine the UN system as a whole. The UAE has so much blood on its hands in Sudan. For its nominee Lana Nusseibeh to lead the UN would be an outrage: #KeepEyesonSudan

Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia. Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won. Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history
