In London, hate will never win.

I've learned as much from setbacks as I have from success. In Esquire's What I've Learned series, I reflect on the lessons that have shaped me, from dealing with disappointment and leading London to the importance of family, faith, resilience and public service.

Today’s Budget is a really positive and significant day for London. At its heart is a new devolution revolution. My statement:

Great news that the Government has confirmed it will help us finally bring cross-channel rail services to Stratford International, making it truly international for the first time. Huge opportunities for jobs, investment and tourism, and - crucially - bringing us closer to Europe.

Number 10 North is driving the largest devolution of power to London's communities we've seen in a generation. By granting London the ability to invest potentially billions of pounds more in our future, it will help unlock transformational infrastructure projects such as the West London Orbital, the Bakerloo line extension and Euston knowledge quarter. A true devolution revolution.

For decades, people talked about pedestrianising Oxford Street. Yesterday, we made it happen. Almost 1km of our nation’s most famous high street is now officially traffic-free. And this is just the beginning. We’re transforming Oxford Street into a greener, safer, world-class destination that Londoners can be proud of.

I’m delighted to see England captain and Londoner Harry Kane crowned the winner of the Ballon d’Or. A well-deserved recognition after scoring an astonishing 73 goals for club and country last season - and who can forget the starring role he played at this summer’s World Cup, including the winning goal against Mexico on that magical night in the Azteca? 70 years after the inaugural Ballon d’Or was won by England’s Sir Stanley Matthews, it was fitting that the ceremony should come to London for the first time. Not only is he a Tottenham and England legend, but he is now - officially - one of the greatest of all time.
