I spent over two decades in counterterrorism and I’m still involved in many ways, so here are my views on what I see has happened over the past 24-36 hours in the UK: Five British men in their twenties were arrested on Sunday near RAF Fairford on suspicion of explosives offences and the preparation of a terrorist act. On Monday they were released on police bail. That’s not what the terrorism clock looks like when the investigators are still in charge of it. Under ordinary UK criminal law a suspect can be held for 24 hours, stretched to 36 by a superintendent, and to 96 hours by a magistrate. But under section 41 of the Terrorism Act the first hold is 48 hours, not 24 hours. A judge can then extend it, in stages, up to 14 days without a charge. If the case merits it, it can even be pushed to 28 days. That 14-day cap exists for exactly this kind of file of vans, an airbase the United States uses, a possible foreign hand, explosives (if there were any) and interviews that are not finished on the first night. Counter-terrorism police said the inquiry isn’t over. They said conditions apply. They said a state link has not been ruled out. Those sentences he said only make sense if the evidence trail was still live. A live trail is why Parliament built the two-week window. But watching the guy read out the statement showed me in his body language, tone and eye movements that releasing those five men was NOT his or his department’s decision. Walking five men after roughly a day is what you do with a pub fight, not with a suspected terrorist attack on a bomber base. I’ve sat in enough interrogation rooms to know the difference between a custody clock and a political ceiling. Nobody had to shout an order down a phone. Someone in the political building above the investigators decided that charging British nationals on Monday, with Iran already denying it, Washington watching the runway, and a Labour conference where the main topics of discussion were prioritizing Palestinian and other refugees settling in the UK, was uglier than bail and a holding statement. The law allowed them to keep the door shut. Yet the door opened anyway in half of the most minimum time. That’s the story. That for me is the only story here. Not “they were innocent.” Not “the case collapsed.” The statute was not exhausted, but the appetite was. The real question is who, and most importantly, why?

Hi @PatriciaHeaton Hopefully the below will help: Here is the expanded version: Nigeria is not a natural country. Its three major populations the British forced into one administrative unit in 1914. The North is dominated by the Hausa-Fulani, largely Muslim. The Southwest is dominated by the Yoruba, religiously mixed. The Southeast is dominated by the Igbo, largely Christian. Plus hundreds of smaller groups. These were separate societies with different languages, religions, and political systems. None of them consented to be joined. Lord Lugard amalgamated the Northern and Southern Protectorates for British convenience, not because the people formed a single nation. That structure was handed over at independence. The result has been permanent competition between the regions, the Biafran War, and the kind of religious and ethnic violence that continues today. Asking why the Nigerian government cannot protect Christians from Islamist groups is asking the wrong question. The government is not a neutral national authority. It’s the product of a forced union in which the largest Muslim population has always held disproportionate power. Nigeria also isn’t an exception. The British did the same elsewhere. They combined the Arab-Muslim North and African Christian/animist South in Sudan, producing decades of civil war and the eventual secession of South Sudan. They assembled Iraq from Sunni Arab, Shia Arab, and Kurdish populations under a single state. They administered Cyprus’s Greek and Turkish communities until the island split when Turkey illegally occupied the North and still does to this day. They managed competing Jewish and Arab claims in Mandate Palestine, then left. In each case the British drew the lines or forced the combination for their own administrative reasons. The violence that followed is the predictable result of putting incompatible groups inside the same borders and walking away. Basically, all the issues you see in all these countries now are the exact same issues you’re seeing within the borders of Britain itself. They’ve brought in multiple groups that are simply incompatible with one another, forced them onto the indigenous British people, and left the experiment to work itself out which has led to hatred, division and prejudice. It’s a social experiment the British elite almost love to play and they don’t really care what consequences come out of it. France has done the same thing in other countries and within its own borders.

Serious question - does Nigeria not have a military than can protect Christians? Or does the government support the killings?

I’m not going to try start an argument, but the reason this guy says what he does and gets away with it isn’t because it’s become normalized. It’s because the rest of society has advocated for him to be able to say this. It’s become normalized because this is what free speech means. That’s the hill you all said you’re willing to die on. He’s a full blown Nazi because America gives him more rights than they do the little girl he’s saying it to. Argue all you like that it’s not the case. That’s exactly the case. This is what “free speech” looks like. She will live a life of fear knowing America has hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of people just like him. And everyone will do nothing until the day comes when he and the other millions start acting it out and committing mass murders. This is exactly what happened during the rise of Hitler. Everyone stood by and appeased him and allowed him to say whatever he wanted. He promised to wipe out the Jews. The world only gave a shit after he actually did it. Yet all through the actual Holocaust, while millions of innocent people were being slaughtered, the world was filled with “men” fighting for his right to say whatever he liked. Nobody can complain now. This is what it looks like in the real world. Those big brave fearless men you talk about don’t exist. They just talk. Because if anyone went and beat the shit out of him, they’re the ones who break the law. That’s the entire problem.

In a better time, which was not that long ago. This guy would have been dragged out of his house and had his teeth kicked in on his front lawn by real men who feel nothing but contempt and disgust for parasites like this. There’s been a lot of debate on X about what the Nazis were. Whether they were left or right, socialist or not. Even @elonmusk got right into the middle of that conversation. Israel told the UN Conciliation Commission it would annex the Egyptian-held strip and grant FULL CITIZENSHIP to the people already there plus the refugees packed into it. Roughly 200,000 to 230,000 Arabs would have become Israeli citizens. Israel would have absorbed the territory and the population as part of a settlement. EGYPT SAID NO!!! That is the record. Israel proposed taking the land and the people. The Arab side rejected the offer. Everything that followed in Gaza happened after that refusal.

This election more than many before it will show the people of Israel exactly where politicians really stand and what they stand for. A few on the opposition bloc are already coming out stating that they should join forces with the Arab bloc to form a majority government. Yair Golan just came out and stated exactly that. That would break their campaign promises and go against everything their supporters believed they were voting for. It would also give the Arabs the power to begin to undermine the State of Israel and destroy it from within. Several of the Arab bloc came out on the day of the election and stated their full support for Gaza, and the PA, for our mortal enemies. And yet these are the people that Golan wants to join forces with. Democracy can be a beautiful thing. But all too often it has become a weapon that destroys us because it’s abused by those wanting our destruction. All we can do is wait for those final results and pray this never happens. It may ultimately lead to the civil war the left has wanted to instigate all along.

About 70% of the vote has been counted and Netanyahu’s bloc currently have 56 seats to Eisenkot’s 48, with the Arab groups with 16. Still some way to go and things could very easily change, but this is not how the polls have had it for weeks. Interesting finale coming, that’s for sure.
