IXD Day 2026 at NID Bengaluru | ERROR 404: Interface Lost, Interface Found! The Interaction Design Discipline at NID Bengaluru hosted IXD Day 2026 on 16 October, exploring how interfaces are evolving beyond screens in an increasingly AI-driven and connected world. As in previous years, the event was made possible through the active involvement and collaborative efforts of IXD faculty Jagriti Galphade, Lead IXD and Athul Dinesh, along with the students, in planning and hosting the programme. The panel featured NID alumni Prabuddha Vyas, Co-Founder Unikwan; Heya Basu, Design Director, User Experience Design at Globant; and Jyoti Anand, systems thinker and product and experience designer. Through an engaging discussion and open Q&A with students, the panel explored AI and the changing role of designers, multisensory interactions, privacy and trust, and the need to design for India’s diverse languages, cultures and communities. The discussion reinforced an important idea: while interfaces and technologies may change, the fundamentals of design remain the same—understanding people, addressing real needs and creating meaningful impact. IXD Day continues to be a valuable opportunity for our students, faculty and alumni to come together, exchange ideas and learn from one another. @NID_India , @DPIITGoI @PiyushGoyal , @JitinPrasada #NIDAhmedabad #NIDBengaluru #nationalinstituteofdesign #DesignEducation #InteractionDesign

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, and the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) camps in Chhattisgarh as ‘Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera Jan Suvidha Kendras’ under a pilot initiative of Project Vishwas. The initiative aims to transform selected security camps into integrated community resource and development centres that facilitate access to public services, strengthen local livelihoods, promote skill development and support social and economic development, while respecting the region’s indigenous culture and community aspirations. The five camps identified for development in the first phase are Netanar Camp in Bastar district, Ramaram Camp in Sukma district, Renganar Camp in Dantewada district, Peddakodepal Camp in Bijapur district, and Irakbhatti Camp in Narayanpur district. Design-led approach to community development The initiative draws upon NID’s multidisciplinary expertise in design, research and innovation to develop facilities and interventions responsive to local needs and opportunities. The project will be undertaken through NID’s Design Research and Innovation Centre for Nation Building, which focuses on projects of national significance contributing to societal development and nation-building. A multidisciplinary team from NID, led by Dr. Ashok Mondal, Director, NID Ahmedabad, visited the five identified camps along with State Government officials. The team interacted with local residents, government officials, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other stakeholders to understand local socio-economic conditions, existing livelihood practices and community aspirations. Based on the field study and stakeholder consultations, NID submitted a feasibility report and implementation roadmap to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The proposals were subsequently presented to the Senior Officials of the MHA. The five camps were identified for the pilot phase following the consultations. Integrated facilities for community welfare and economic empowerment Under the MoU, the camps will be planned and developed to accommodate a range of facilities addressing four core objectives: Jan Suvidha, Community Development, Social Development and Economic Development. The proposed Seva Dera Kendras will provide Jan Suvidha Kendras for public services and digital support, along with skill development and vocational training facilities. They will promote healthcare, sports, cultural activities and community well-being. Livelihood generation will be strengthened through Minor Forest Produce processing, value addition, branding and packaging. The initiative will also support enterprise creation, market linkages and sustainable community mobility through electric vehicles. Together, these interventions aim to foster inclusive community development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods. Under the MoU, NID will apply its design expertise and institutional resources to plan and establish the proposed facilities in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Design for nation-building The development of the five Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera Jan Suvidha Kendras represents an application of design beyond conventional built-environment interventions—integrating public services, skills, cultural life, local enterprise and market access within a community-oriented development framework. Through Project Vishwas, the Ministry of Home Affairs and NID Ahmedabad seek to establish a pilot model for design-led community development in Chhattisgarh, with the potential to inform future interventions based on the outcomes and learnings of the initiative. @narendramodi , @AmitShah @NID_India , @DPIITGoI @PiyushGoyal , @JitinPrasada @ChhattisgarhCMO , @vishnudsai #MHA #NIDAhmedabad #NationalInstituteofDesign #Bastar #Chhattisgarh #ProjectVishwas

The National Institute of Design is pleased to announce that Sairaj , student of Digital Game Design, 2024 Batch has been awarded Winner - Best Video Game (Student) at the prestigious FICCI BAF Awards 2026 for his project YALIYA. The award was presented as part of FICCI FRAMES 2026, a leading platform celebrating excellence across animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, XR, and emerging creative technologies. The awards brought together creators, students, studios, and industry professionals to recognise innovative work across the creative and entertainment ecosystem. About YALIYA YALIYA is an immersive VR narrative adventure inspired by Hindu mythology. The game follows Indratej through a mysterious world of ancient rituals, supernatural beings, challenges, and ancestral powers. Through immersive VR interaction, players explore different levels, interact with the environment, make choices that influence their journey, solve riddles, and eventually awaken the YALIYA power, with abilities inspired by the mythical creature itself, including a sonic attack and defensive shield. Drawing inspiration from the way folklore subtly transforms as stories are passed down through generations, YALIYA explores how different choices can lead to different interpretations and versions of the same story. The project brings together mythology, interactive storytelling, game design, and immersive VR to create a narrative experience rooted in Indian cultural imagination. A special appreciation to Swapnesh, mentor for the project, for his guidance, critical feedback, and continued support throughout the development of YALIYA. The project was also strengthened through extensive playtesting and valuable feedback from everyone who experienced the game during its development. About the Project GHARONDHA is designed as a compact and flexible home that can adapt to the changing needs of a family. The project explores how affordability and sustainability can work together within a small space. The house is designed on a 60 sqm plot in Bengaluru, with a 32 sqm carpet area for a family of 4–5 members. The layout includes an 11.2 sqm bedroom, 14 sqm kitchen–living–dining space, 3.9 sqm washroom, and 2.4 sqm common area. One of the key ideas of the project is the flexibility of the living space. The multifunctional living area can also be used as an additional sleeping space when needed, allowing the house to accommodate changing family needs without increasing its footprint. Considering Bengaluru’s climate, the design uses passive strategies based on ECBC principles, with a north–south orientation to improve comfort and reduce energy use. The project also explores simple and practical ways of making affordable housing more adaptable. Traditional construction elements are reinterpreted in new ways, along with built-in and flexible furniture.
