Whoever dumped all over the Gowanus Expressway STINKS! We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again: When you dump your trash, it isn't just a cleanup for us - it's a safety issue for drivers, pedestrians and anyone who wants to enjoy our city. It’s illegal. It’s antisocial behavior. Dispose of your trash properly. Don't dump on our city.

This is not a bright idea! Getting rid of lightbulbs, safely, is easy. Double bag your bulbs and place them with your household trash - not in a public bin where they could break and injure others. Compact fluorescent light bulbs can also be brought to our Special Waste Drop-Off Sites. Learn more here:

Littering made the Nassau nasty! Seriously. It's never just "one tiny piece of garbage." It piles up, it makes the highway look gross, it blocks catch basins, and it makes the city unsanitary! STOP! Don't litter; don't dump. Take pride in our city.

Our compost giveback season has come to an end for the year and we want to sum it up for you, New York. Hundreds of events. Thousands of attendees. Over 14 MILLION pounds of compost given away. But that doesn't mean we're slowing down - we're already prepping for next year's givebacks. We collected 4.6 million pounds of food scraps and yard waste just last week alone! Incredible work, New York. Thanks for making it a great compost giveback season. When we compost, everyone's on the winning team.
