🚨Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Confronts USA Over Pakistan’s F-16s Support, Terrorism and the Risk of U.S. Military Technology Reaching China
US wants deeper defence cooperation with India while simultaneously continuing military support for Pakistan. For New Delhi, that contradiction is becoming impossible to ignore.
At the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Cebu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confronted U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over Washington’s F-16 support package for Pakistan and raised India’s concerns over cross-border terrorism.
The issue goes far beyond a few fighter jets. Pakistan maintains a deepening military partnership with China, raising concerns in New Delhi that sensitive American-origin military technology supplied to Islamabad could eventually reach Beijing.
India’s message was straightforward: Washington cannot claim to be firmly against terrorism while simultaneously strengthening the military capabilities of a country that India has repeatedly accused of supporting cross-border terrorism.
The irony is even sharper because India and the U.S. are simultaneously expanding defence cooperation, including military technology, information sharing, co-production and Indo-Pacific security.
India is willing to build a stronger strategic partnership with America, but not at the cost of its own security interests.
The F-16 package has therefore exposed a deeper contradiction in U.S. policy: Washington wants India as a strategic partner while keeping Pakistan in its military orbit.6y6
