RT @sfojoemmanuela: Ogun Suspends Eselu of Iselu Over Alleged Partisan Political Activities The Ogun State Government has suspended the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Government Area, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, with immediate effect over alleged partisan political activities. The suspension was approved by the State Executive Council pursuant to Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law, 2021, pending a detailed investigation into the allegations against the monarch. The decision was conveyed in a letter dated October 20, 2026, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat. According to the letter, the council acted following several complaints concerning the traditional ruler’s conduct, particularly his alleged involvement in overtly partisan political activities, some of which were reportedly publicised by him. The government noted that partisan politics was contrary to customary law and prohibited by statute, warning that such conduct could undermine the dignity of the traditional institution and threaten peaceful coexistence among subjects with different political affiliations. It said the suspension was in the interest of peace, order and good governance in Ogun State, particularly in Iselu Kingdom, while the allegations were subjected to an official and detailed review. As part of the conditions of the suspension, Oba Akinyemi has been directed to vacate the palace and refrain from entering it throughout the period of his suspension. He has also been instructed not to present himself as, or claim recognition as, the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom. The government further prohibited him from wearing or using any crown, whether beaded or otherwise, ileke, beaded staff, irukere or other paraphernalia associated with the office of an Oba during the suspension. The letter also directed the monarch to make himself available promptly for any meeting or sitting convened by the state government to investigate the allegations against him. Copies of the letter were sent to the Secretary of Yewa North Local Government and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, for their information and necessary action.

Ogun Approves ₦50,000 Welfare Palliative for Each of 3,050 Corps Members State Donates 500 Mattresses to NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu The Ogun State Government has approved a welfare palliative of ₦50,000 each for the 3,050 members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) currently undergoing their orientation programme at the NYSC camp in Sagamu. The intervention, approved by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease the burden of prevailing economic challenges on young Nigerians and provide support for corps members serving in the state. The disbursement of the funds commenced on Monday, with each eligible corps member to receive ₦50,000 to help meet personal and other essential needs during the orientation period. The initiative underscores the state government’s recognition of the contributions of corps members to national development and its commitment to promoting their welfare, comfort and overall well-being throughout their service year. The government acknowledges that corps members, many of whom are away from their families and familiar environments, face various financial and personal demands as they settle into their new assignments. The additional financial support is intended to provide some relief and make their transition into the service year more manageable. Beyond the financial palliative, the state government has also approved the donation of 500 mattresses to the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu to strengthen the camp’s capacity to accommodate corps members comfortably. The intervention comes amid an increase in the number of corps members deployed to Ogun State, making continuous investment in camp facilities and essential amenities necessary to sustain appropriate living conditions for participants. The provision of mattresses forms part of the government’s broader commitment to supporting the NYSC programme and ensuring that corps members have access to decent accommodation and a conducive environment during their orientation exercise. The Abiodun administration recognises the strategic role of the NYSC scheme in promoting national unity, cultural integration, leadership development and service to local communities. Corps members also contribute to critical sectors, including education, healthcare and community development, bringing their knowledge, skills and energy to bear on the development of their host communities. The state government, therefore, considers their welfare an important aspect of creating a supportive environment in which they can discharge their responsibilities effectively and have a rewarding service year. Ogun State will continue to explore measures to improve facilities at the orientation camp in response to changing needs and the growing number of corps members deployed to the state. The objective is to sustain appropriate standards of accommodation, comfort and general welfare while strengthening the state’s capacity to receive and support corps members during their orientation. The government also encourages corps members to embrace the values of discipline, patriotism, tolerance and selfless service, and to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the NYSC scheme to contribute meaningfully to their host communities and the country at large. The state government reiterates its commitment to initiatives that promote youth welfare, social inclusion and human capital development, recognising young people as important partners in building a more prosperous and inclusive society. Abiodun gave the charge on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he urged the new commissioners to demonstrate integrity, humility, fairness and commitment to public service. The governor charged them to remain accessible to the people, listen attentively to their concerns and exercise prudence in the management of public resources, stressing that their appointments must translate into tangible benefits for the people. He also emphasised the importance of continuity in governance, urging the commissioners to preserve institutional knowledge, maintain proper records and ensure that ongoing projects and programmes were completed. Abiodun advised them to familiarise themselves with the priorities of his administration, understand the status of existing projects and bring fresh energy, sound judgment and a strong sense of responsibility to their assignments. “Public confidence grows when citizens can see that those they entrusted with leadership understand their needs and act to address them,” he said. The governor further urged the new commissioners to embrace teamwork, respect the professionalism of the public service and collaborate effectively with the ministries, departments and agencies under their supervision. “Your ability to listen, inspire confidence, make informed decisions and translate policies into outcomes will determine the contribution you make to our collective mission. “Bring your experience to bear, remain willing to learn and support your colleagues in the pursuit of common objectives,” he said. Abiodun noted that the value of public office should be measured by the problems it helps to solve and the opportunities it creates, adding that the responsibility before members of the State Executive Council was to consolidate existing achievements, address unfinished priorities and leave behind a stronger and more prosperous Ogun State. Describing the period as the final lap of his administration, the governor said the remaining months required urgency, discipline, political maturity and an unwavering commitment to excellence. “We are now in the final lap of this administration. Food Security: Abiodun Unveils Support Package for 10,000 Ogun Farmers Distributes 10 Tractors, 1,200 Android Phones, Farm Inputs Ogun State Governor, Prince @DapoAbiodunCON, has unveiled a comprehensive support package for 10,000 rice and cassava farmers, including subsidised fertilisers, herbicides and improved planting materials, alongside the distribution of 10 tractors, other agricultural equipment and 1,200 Android phones to boost food production and strengthen food security. Abiodun announced the interventions on Friday at the 2026 World Food Day celebration held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, with the theme, “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow.” Under the initiative, 2,000 rice farmers will receive two bags of fertiliser and one bag of urea each, while 8,000 cassava farmers will receive the same quantities of fertiliser and urea, alongside 25 bundles of cassava stems each. The government will also provide three litres of herbicides to each beneficiary rice farmer and 10 litres to each cassava farmer. The 1,200 Android phones, equipped with applications providing weather information, market prices and guidance on best agricultural practices, are designed to give farmers access to timely information, improve production decisions and strengthen their links to agricultural markets. The 10 tractors and other equipment are being provided to support farm settlements and farmers’ associations across the state, reinforcing the administration’s drive to expand mechanised farming, reduce production costs and increase agricultural output. Abiodun said his administration was committed to transforming agriculture into a profitable, technology-driven sector capable of creating jobs, attracting investment and strengthening Ogun State’s contribution to national food security. “We established the Ogun State Agricultural Land Management Agency (OSALMA) to facilitate access to land and promote a responsible and inclusive framework for land-intensive agricultural investment,” he said. The governor disclosed that his administration had completed 28 agricultural projects in the last two years across crop production, aquaculture and poultry, with investments in processing, storage, mechanisation and other critical infrastructure aimed at strengthening the agricultural value chain. Among the projects, he said, were solar dryers, warehouses, cassava processing centres and a poultry processing plant at Ajegunle Farm Settlement in Odeda Local Government Area. The poultry facility has the capacity to process 5,000 birds daily, equivalent to approximately 1.3 million birds annually. He added that the state had procured 39 tractors, four self-propelled harvesters and other agricultural equipment to improve mechanisation and reduce the burden of manual farming. On youth empowerment, Abiodun disclosed that more than 200 young people had recently received training in soilless farming through a partnership with Soilless Farm Lab, with start-up support provided to help beneficiaries establish their own agricultural enterprises. He said the administration’s objective was to expand local processing, retain greater value within the state’s economy and create employment opportunities across the agricultural value chain. “Our goal is to process more locally, retain greater value and create more jobs. We seek partnerships that create jobs, transfer knowledge, empower farmers and develop local capacity,” he said. The governor called on investors to take advantage of opportunities in commercial farming, agro-processing, livestock production, aquaculture, mechanisation, irrigation, storage and cold-chain facilities, assuring them of the state’s readiness to support responsible agricultural investments. He said the administration was working towards an agricultural economy in which farming was profitable, agribusinesses thrived and rural communities prospered.

Abiodun also highlighted the Ogun State Farmer Information Management System, launched in April 2023, which has captured more than 160,000 farmers and agricultural value-chain actors. He explained that the platform was designed to support evidence-based policymaking, improve the targeting of agricultural interventions and ensure that government assistance reached intended beneficiaries. “Under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), agribusiness firms purchased over 283,000 tonnes of agricultural produce. “Farmers organised into clusters also received capacity-building support and connections to off-takers. These measures have helped turn increased production into dependable income,” he said. The governor commended President @officialABAT for efforts to strengthen local fertiliser production and improve farmers’ access to essential agricultural inputs. He also acknowledged the contributions of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to initiatives supporting women farmers. He said the Ogun State Government would continue to complement federal agricultural initiatives through targeted support for farmers, responsible investment and stronger market linkages. Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, described World Food Day as a reminder that access to nutritious and affordable food was fundamental to human dignity and sustainable development. He said innovation was essential to building a resilient food system and called for greater investment in women and young people through improved access to land, finance, training, technology and viable agribusiness opportunities. Owotomo disclosed that more than 12,000 farmers had benefited from training and agricultural inputs under OGSTEP. He said the latest interventions focused on three areas: digital empowerment through the distribution of Android phones; mechanisation support through agricultural equipment; and subsidised inputs for 2,000 rice farmers and 8,000 cassava farmers. According to him, the input support operates under an arrangement in which beneficiaries contribute 30 per cent of the cost, depending on the category, while the government covers the remaining 70 per cent through its partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). In his keynote address, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Professor Kolawole Adebayo, said Ogun State occupied a strategic position in the future of Nigeria’s food system because of its agricultural potential and proximity to major consumer markets. He noted that the state’s 1.2 million hectares of arable land offered significant opportunities for agro-industrial investment, stressing the need for forward-looking policies and sustained commitment to innovations that would deliver lasting benefits to the food system. Adebayo called for an integrated transportation network linking rail, road, water and air transport to facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural produce, preserve quality and reduce post-harvest losses. He commended the state government for developing agro-industrial processing zones, improving land-clearing services for smallholder farmers and expanding access to agricultural inputs. He also identified the Farmer Information Management System and the establishment of the Nigerian Food Bank in Ogun State as initiatives that could strengthen the state’s contribution to national food security. The National Programme Coordinator of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Programme, Dr Kabiru Yusuf, represented by the National Agriculture Expert, Dr Louis Enaberue, commended Abiodun for his support for the agricultural sector and urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the equipment and farm inputs.

Similarly, the South-West Coordinator of the Commodity Farmers Association of Nigeria, Prince Segun Dasaolu, acknowledged the state government’s interventions, saying they were helping to strengthen agricultural development and support farmers across the region. Speaking on behalf of farm settlers across the state, Rotimi Sogunle thanked the governor for supporting farming communities and described OGSTEP as a significant intervention in the state’s agricultural sector. The highlight of the celebration was the symbolic presentation of tractors, agricultural equipment, Android phones, fertilisers, herbicides and other farm inputs to beneficiaries.

$10bn Investment Puts Ogun, NNPC Partnership and Long-Delayed OGLNG Project at Centre of Emerging Coastal Economy By Kayode Akinmade For more than three decades, the Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas project remained largely a promise on paper. Now, renewed discussions between the Ogun State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) are placing the stalled project at the centre of a broader plan to transform the state’s coastline into an energy, maritime and industrial hub. The talks on the development of the OGLNG project in Ogun Waterside come barely a week after the state government signed Memoranda of Understanding with global ports and logistics operator DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the 10,000-hectare Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. Together, the projects are expected to attract an initial investment of $10 billion and create more than 50,000 direct jobs. The proposed port will have a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, while the adjoining economic zone is planned to accommodate manufacturing, processing, logistics and export-oriented industries. The renewed OGLNG discussions add a critical energy dimension to this emerging coastal economic corridor, creating the prospect of an integrated platform where energy, maritime transport, manufacturing, logistics and international trade reinforce one another. Receiving NNPC officials in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the renewed engagement on OGLNG could provide an important energy foundation for the industrial development expected around the port and special economic zone. “Last Wednesday, we signed an MoU on the Deep Sea Port, and today we have the NNPC team here discussing the activation of the LNG plant,” Abiodun said. The Governor described the proposed facility as a potential energy anchor for industries expected to emerge around the port and special economic zone. He said the project could also help meet the energy needs of businesses and communities across Ogun and the wider South-West. The OGLNG project has been on the drawing board for more than 30 years. Its renewed consideration, coming immediately after the DP World agreements, represents a significant convergence of major investments around Ogun Waterside and strengthens the prospects of developing the area into a major energy and maritime corridor. “They have come to discuss with us the LNG plant that was originally designed and called OGLNG, which was meant to be situated on our coastline. Now, they have brought the project back to life,” Abiodun said. The immediate discussions between Ogun and NNPC are focused on the practical requirements for moving the project forward, including land acquisition, incentives and other conditions needed for its take-off. Abiodun said the state was prepared to support the project and provide the necessary cooperation and guarantees. “They will pay for land in the Economic Zone, and we will be giving them all the cooperation that this project deserves. We will give them all the assistance and guarantees,” he said. The Governor also pointed to the employment potential of the project, citing the NNPC facility in Bonny, Rivers State, where he said about 14,000 people are employed. Beyond direct employment, the proposed LNG facility could support a wider network of contractors, service providers, transport operators, manufacturers and energy-intensive businesses. Its gas supply could also provide an important boost to industries within the economic zone and businesses across Ogun and the wider South-West. NNPC Group Chief Financial Officer, Adedapo Segun, said the company was examining the challenges that stalled OGLNG in the past and working towards solutions that could enable its resuscitation. “We are here to engage with the government of Ogun State on the project we are looking to site along the coastline of the state,” Segun said.

For a project that has waited more than three decades, the return of OGLNG to the centre of active discussions is a significant development in itself. Combined with the $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, it gives concrete expression to a new vision for Ogun Waterside—one in which the coastline becomes a strategic gateway for energy, industry, maritime trade and investment.

The emerging Ogun coastal corridor is thus not simply about building a port or reviving an LNG project. It is about creating an interconnected economic ecosystem capable of generating jobs, attracting investment, supporting industries and connecting Ogun more directly to national and international markets. With the Ogun Government providing the institutional support and investment framework, NNPC bringing its energy-sector mandate to the table, and DP World bringing global port and logistics expertise, the pieces are increasingly coming together for the realisation of a major new economic frontier for Ogun State and Nigeria.

RT @DapoAbiodunCON: On behalf of the Government and good people of Ogun State, we express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, President @officialABAT, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whom we proudly acknowledge as the Facilitator-in-Chief of this transformational project. For nearly 30 years, the vision of a deep seaport along our coastline was proposed, discussed and captured in official documents, yet it remained unrealised. Today, through the foresight, courage and determined leadership of President Tinubu, that long-standing aspiration is finally being transformed into reality. Great nations are not built on intentions alone, but by leaders with the political will to turn possibilities into progress. By providing the strategic direction and enabling environment required, Mr. President has revived a vision that remained on the drawing board for three decades. With the Gateway Deep Seaport and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, we are opening a new chapter for Ogun State and positioning Nigeria to become an even stronger force in global trade, maritime commerce, industrialisation and economic development. We deeply appreciate Mr. President and the Federal Government for their unwavering support and commitment to making this historic vision a reality. Posterity will indeed be kind to you, Mr. President.
